Before you go and start spending money on the stantons, check out ebay, I just found a pair of new stanton str8-80's for $399 heres the link eBay - Stanton STR8-80

I have str8-100s...they are amazing. Personally I would probably go for them or the 90s over the 80s and below. There's a lot more torque for not much more money.

And by the way...ebay is the way to go. I got my pair of str8-100s for $410 total (plus $30 shipping) from there. One was new and one was used slightly as a floor model.

I also hate how people just say to get technics...i spent waaay less than I would have for technics and these decks are so much better than the technics...it's just stupid. The straight arm on these things is insane if you scratch at all...the thing just doesn't skip no matter what you do. Sure it supposedly wears your vinyl slightly faster but I haven't noticed any difference yet. And the key correction is very very nice...

So I'd recommend going on ebay and seeing how much you can get a set of 90s or 100s for...and saving that much. If you don't want to spend however much that is, then yeah you're not going to do much better than the lower stanton models, and those are decent so I'd get one of those.

IntegraR0064 i couldn't agree with you more i worked 45 hours a week during high school with a full class schedule so i had more then enough money to buy technics but when i went to my local store and tried out 3 different turntables (in my case the 1200, vestax pdx-2000, and the gemini pdt-6000) i couldn't tell a damn difference besides the price and honestly i thought the pdt-6000 felt alot more up to date so i spent prolly 300 to 500 less on the pdt-6000 and i am just as satisfied. people need to open up their fucken eyes there is other shit out there! shop around i know you can get the pdt-600 for 300 at pssl.com and they price match so if you find somthing lower you can get it for even cheaper.

I have the 60's and I have afew complaints about them.

First off, they have very weak torque, meaning any touching of the record actually slows down the speed of the platter. not the greatest thing to do.

The pitch is also alittle bit annoying, there is a fairly big jump from the 0 position.. I guess besides that it's fine.

It's up to you.. they are still good turntables to mix on, it's just gonna be harder for you.

I'm no Technics salesperson but.......

Don't go the Stantons!

Sure, Stantons seem like so much more value compared to Technics..........when they're new!

Its when you get to about 9 months down the track you start to notice the difference.

There is a reason why the 1200SLs have been in production, almost untouched in design since they were conceived in the mid 70s for radio stations. They are fcuken built to last.

Seriously guys, does anyone actually play records in reverse?
Yes, +/-12% pitch is cool, but don't get used to it when you play out at clubs. You'll only find you get to play on technics.

And Key Correction??? Fcuken rubbish if you ask me.

Stantons consist of poor quality compnents in comparison to Technics, which you will be well aware of when they get a bit older.

Personally I'd much rather have 2nd or even 3rd hand Technics that have been serviced compared to new Stantons. Fork out an extra couple of hundred, you'll be much happier in the long run.

Hope this helps.

i have the stanton str8-80s and i'm very happy with them. the only bad thing about them really is that they are so god damn sensitive to touch!!! but that's no so horrible because when you jump on the techs at a club, you will have no problems. the straight arm is great, the dj craze needle that came with it is great. true the torque is not much compared to the techs, but it really makes no big difference when you are starting out. i've been spinning for 6 months now and i think maybe in a few years i will upgrade, but i really do love my dex...i couldn't afford techs at all, that's why i went with the stantons. i got the platinum pack II, which i don't recommend you get, because the stanton sk-6f mixer in it sux ass.
anyway, it's also important to have enough $ for vinyl. if i had bought techs, i would not have been able to buy more than a couple of vinyls, and that would have sucked!
and i've heard good things about the numark 100 series...

First of all, dont listen to all the people who trumpet that the technics 1200/1210 is the only 'real' turntable, because its utter bullshit. While they are probably the toughest and most reliable, the design hasnt changed much in 30 years and frankly all its good for is straight up spinning. While other vendors have incorporated new features into their decks like digital outputs and key correction, the technics has failed to include even basic improvements, For instance the 1200 still has a maximum pitch adjustment of +/-8%, while others have selectable 8/16/25% ranges.

Dont get me wrong, the 1200 is a great turn table but IMO most people only believe theyre the best because theyre the 'industry standard'. Do you know why theyre the industry standard? its not because they have the best response or features, its because you can drop them off the back of a truck and they still work, which is really more important where people are liable to spill their beer on it.

As to Stanton tt's.. theyre good quality, but i woudlnt buy anything less than an 880, unfortunately the 8-80 isnt much cheaper than a 1200 and the top of the range ones like the str8-100 and 150 will cost more than a 1200.

thanks!!!

yes the techs are built like a tank. my dad bought one 7 years ago and he says you can drop it out a 3 story building and it would still work.

but i agree about how just because they are built to last , doesn't mean they are the best tables. they really don't have any features...
but ohh the mkIIs look sexy as hell..

Like I said...I got a pair of 100s for $205 each...

They sell for much much less than "msrp" or whatever.
