What does MDF stand for? I am thinking of building a similar table like yours, TwiloNYC.

TwiloNYC, what did you use to cut your wood? I would like to make something similar, but I dont have all these fancy saws. I could very easily rent something though, depending on what it is.

I believe it stands for Medium Density Fiberboard. It is made of small particals of wood and glued together to form a sheet. The main advantage is that this makes it VERY even as there is no wood grain or knots in it (and it is not to expensive). Of course it does not look amazing (as there is not grain or anything) but that can be painted over or vaneered. MDF is a kind of partical board, but there are many other kinds that use different sized wood chunks, you want MDF.

lol. that's not mine. i said that's what i'm modeling mine after (DualSF tables). sorry for the confusion.

I used 3/4" thick birch plywood but cutting it was a BITCH! Some edges when cut too fast would splinter the birch and ruin the whole thing. So I got myself a load of MDF, which is 100Xs easier to cut. To cut out the shape of the TTs, mixer, etc. you'd need a fixed or plunge Router with a straight carbon bit and a good straight edge guide. Also a good thing to have is a Milter, Circular or Table Saw. It's time consuming and you have to carefully measure & plan it out.

I see.. Well I just picked up some MDF and a nice Jigsaw to make a new pair of speaker stands. I must say, MDF is amazing. The cuts are so precise, smooth edges, very very easy to work with. I cant believe how accurate I was able to cut it with the jigsaw without using a guide.

I will probably build a DJ table similar to the ones on the DUAL site, but I will definately make some changes. Most of theirs have to many open shelves.. I would rather have three equipment slots (amp sized) with a hinged door on the front (with shelves inside) and two drawers on either side, to store records. I will probably construct it out of MDF, as I like working with it so much and its not really that expensive.

I didnt post any pictures of my setup! You must be refering to someone else.

Anyways, i think when I do build my DJ table setup, it will probably cost around 150 (canadian) or so for supplies. maybe alittle more if I want railed drawers and nice handles.

Hey guys, I am looking to build something very similar to you.

I am going to steal this exact design.



The top unit for the monitors and cd decks is simple.

The question I have is how do you build something liek this so taht you can get to the back of the mixer with realitive easyness?
I guess Armin must have some small panel that he can flip up to access the back of the mixer or something?


The other question I have is how would you support a table like this with decks / mixer? I guess you would have to anchor it to the shelves underneath but it doesn't seem like armin has the front end of it supported at all..
