If you want the most stable/aggressive memory settings, you'd need to invest in some corsair RAM.

Fraid I'm not too clued up on o/cing as yet, still learning.

If you don't care about the budget, at least get the 9500 pro. The 9600 pro was made to be cheaper, not faster.

It's near impossible to find 9500 pros this days.. There were at lack when it was current, and it's even rarer now..

That's why ATI made 9600 after all: demand for 9500 pro was high, but they had no stock...

On the other hand you could get the 9500 non pro, and OC it to 9700 PRO speeds !!!!

So far about 3 ppl that I know in real life who tried it (with soft mod, luckly for them) had the fun fun fun chess textures... So yeah.. You might make a 9700 out of it, but you might as well get stuck with a slowish 9500 non-pro..

rule #1: dont o/c ram.

or if you're intending to, dont do it manually, as some1 sed there will be a settin in the bios for 'aggressive' memory setting. tbh i'd leave the timings to default, the performance increase you get will not be noticable imo. If you do do it then i'd seriously suggest investing in some ram heatsinks, just incase.. especially as it's summertime and your computer will run hotter than normal neways.

stk, here are what some of my buds down at futuremark.com said... Sorry it's not much, they don't tend to be as helpful as tehy used to be, but whatever...

---

trial and error. thats what overclocking is all about.

---

Lowering Timmings ussaly doesnt do anything at all if the memory can only handle 2.5 and such. You might get a few more mb/s but thats it. Overclocking is a matter of ram speed and he should be able to over clock with that speed

---

Crucial is quality stuff so he should be able to do more aggressive timings. Like they say just the luck of the draw. Tell him to try it. If it doesn't work just step back the timings some.

---

Looks like I was wrong about Crucial sucking. But still, Corsair owns it without a doubt. Gotta love those Winbond chips .

thx guys, well as in OCing, crucial aren't the best, i tried the most aggressive settings at 2-2-2-6 and when i started windows, it crashed..the best i could do was i set the 2.5 cas setting to 2.0, which made almost no difference, LOL... anyways I'm thinking of investing in 2x pc3200 256 corsair rams, the one that has pre-installed heat spreaders, was thinking about 512 , but thats overkill aint it?

I have an ati 9500 np 64 megs though, DOH! i guess i won't be able to OC it to 9700 pro...

Everything on my PC is OC, the ram at 180 25-3-3-6, 9700np at 385/295 infinion 3.3ns ram really really sucks but the card is sweet, athlon xp 1.47 1700+ @ 2.11 2600+ (10x211), and 8 80mm fans

Never mixed different brand of ram cause it sucks
