Thats just the way it is here, all the kids are hypnotized by what they see on TV. I.E. Hip-hop, Rap

Kids here are so into pop-culture and being cool they wouldnt even give it a chance. Maybe some day it will happen but not in North America.

This makes absolutley no sense. Just because a song is mainstream doesn't mean it sucks, and just because a genre is mainstream doesn't mean it sucks either. What do you consider mainstream? TV/Radio airtime? Tiesto's remix of Silence got alot of airtime, and has become pretty mainstream if you ask me, but that doesn't take away any quality that that track posesses. How bout them Spider-Man commercials using Heaven Scent as the BGM?.Popularity, as loosely defined as it is? It's safe to say that in many European countries, trance and electronica in general has become the staple genre of music in their respective industries. I read somewhere that electronica has become the biggest music business in the Netherlands and other parts of Europe.
That's mainstream if you ask me. But does that mean it sucks? Of course not. As far as that 50 comment you made, sure, he's become mainstream...fuck that, he's pop now, but look at others on this board wearing PvD shirts and what not. If that's not mainstream in it's respective territory, then please tell me what is.

Right. We are all unique. Just like everyone else. What kind of credit or personal comfort does it give you to know that you listen to trance, just like millions worldwide and is part of a messageboard, just like thousands of others? Just like how electronica has it's subdivisional groups(househeads, junglists, tranceaddicts )Hip hop has it's sub-culture groups as well...taggers, breakers, DJs, MCs...so just because we like trance, and represent a small group of people doesn't make us any better, or unique. We just happen to like a musical genre that some people don't.
It'll be the same whether trance becomes mainstream or not.
Trance will never replace hip hop. Hip hop will never replace trance. Nothing will replace hip hop, just like how nothing will replace trance. We listen to music for what it is, don't we? NOT because people like it or not.

Trance has to reinvent itself, or to outdo itself to beat hip hop. Right now, I dont think Trance can be THAT popular.

Like it was mentionned earlier in the thread, "It's already begun with the cheesey DJ's, please don't let it go mainstream" I mean, its unbearable to see 16 yr old kids thinking they are cool because they are listening to "trance" (sylver - turn the tide / darude - sandstorm...) and putting the volume so high in his car that he dont actually need an engine to move his car.

Maybe In Canada, but here in souther cali [ where i live ],you never see/hear people play trance....why u ask yourself? because people in southern cali are to afraid to show who they really are. They would rather fit in, rather than enjoy what they love, and not being afraid of who they are. I guess im the only 16 year old that actually has taste compared to the other 16 year olds. but i also agree that there are many cheesy dj's that get to much credit for one song that becomes great. but anyways, back to the main point, no i really dont think trance will ever take hip hops playce, i mean trance is one of the best things that have ever happnd to me. but where would all the laughter go, looking at fucking hip hop/rap posers at skewl. kids who think their black when their in a fucking white washed area. but i would have to say it would suck if it was to trendy like everyone out here, because then again [ p.diddy would have to show up ]. the only thing that makes me mad is the fact whenever someone hears me play trance, they automatically come up with the assumption that all of electronica sounds the same. Geeze i swear, if they would give it the time of day, they would notice that most of teh same sounds that come outa trance are the same sounds comming out of their hip/hop-punk musica. There would be no clubs if it wasnt' for electronica or dance. because there would be to many gang fights and deaths and all of them would close down.
So dont worry if trance will take over hip hop because us "tranceaddicts" will never let it happen

I wish things were like that in Northern California. I've noticed a lot of people like things simply because of the "underground" aspect of it, even though to any real TA, it is appearant who is the cheese producer and plagiarists.

Seeing my classmates run around listening to "DJ" Mystik thinking just listening to EDM (and of this type ) would automatically make them "cool" and in the raving scene.

damn do i ever agree with you there. If you listen to any genre, pop, rock or hip-hop it all sounds essentially the same. It's the intricacies that seperate the great from the good from the samey.

So why does electronica/trance always seem to get singled out as all sounding the same????? Maybe its because of the strong bassline thats very obvious.

IMO to truly listen to trance properly you have to give it to time to progress and on a single track basis doesn't have the same impact as a series of tracks strung together to build up the emotion. Whether thats chilledout emotion, or getting your feet moving - u can't just skip through trance and say "yeah thats awesome" - you have to *listen* to it.

In effect, ppl are to lazy or impatient to do that these days and they want their easy fix instead of giving something a chance to really be better than it could ever be the first time.

Am I making any sense?

Hmmm... so I guess what I'm trying to say is that while trance might sound similar on the surface, its got a lot more variety and soul underlying, whereas once you've heard a pop/hip-hop song i feel like there's nothing left to dig for... What you hear is what you get.

yeah im happy with the way electronic music is represented in north america. its not mainstream, but if it was we'd all be teeny bopper clubbers/ravers for following the "trend". and who would want that? haha im perfectly content with being the only person on my block who blasts Trance/Hardcore/Jungle/House/ and Breaks outside my windows. does that make me cooler than everyone else who listens to other forms of music? definately not. but its sorta like drugs: isnt it soo much more fun to do while its illegal? lol

i have to agree whole heartedly with you on that statement!! i've told my friends the same thing time and time again. they aren't into electronica nearly as much as i am, but i was once playing songs in a set letting them hear it as they played video games and all of a sudden they were like "what song is that?" "that's so cool" "play it again" etc. the fact is they weren't giving trance the time of day but once they *listened* to it and let the emotional aspects influence them they changed their opinion of trance.

as far as trance in north america...i hope it doesnt get as big as hip-hop/rap/whatever. i only used to want it to be that big because here in colorado we don't get all the good dj's that others have the benefit of seeing, and i was bitter. now that i'm older thought i can pretty much travel to any show i want soon enough. so now i dont want it to get as big as i used to. it's fine where it is
