The average salary in China is about 50 American dollars a month. Though I must say people in the cities earn a bit more. An average worker earns 100 USD a month. How can they afford a vinyl???????????????????????????????????

I agree. The average income in my country is about US$300 a month and its already so hard to afford vinyl with all the expensive postage and taxes included. So its gotta be impossible unless they really save up just to get vinyl.

Very god read, interesting to know how the whole MP3 scene is affecting some where. I liked the part about ending th tyranny of the record company, simply beautiful.

1000 RMB being someone's average salary in the most developed city in China, Shanghai... The numbers are even worse in other cities.

Oh yea, anyone seen vinyl sales sites accept RMBs? I don't think so.

I understand it's expensive but mp3s return nothing to the artist, plus vinyl is more fun to spin anyway

i think we've touched on a very interesting subject..

even here in parts of the USA trance records are very difficult to come by. where i live in texas there are only 2 or 3 stores that sell new trance records and this is actually a very big metropolitan area of about 4 million people. the only way to order is online which is expensive especially if you order fron overseas which is where all the hottest new trance comes from. The shipping costs are extremely high and bad US to Euro-Pound exchange rates makes it even worse. futhermore no radio stations really play trance here and a few records stores carry only the more commercially oriented cd releases.
my point is, some of the same things that are affecting the Chinese DJ's and music lovers are affecting us right here in the USA too. Trance has now become an international music catering to most of us that are cutting edge and technologicaly proficient i.e. computer users.

I'm not sure who you are referring to, but if you are referring to me, I was not trying to make fun of anyone or their misfortune. I was merely stating the price of vinyls in my local DJ store.

The thread author made no comment either way in regards to the article (other than to present it for our perusal, and state how interesting it was).

DKNY, who is a woman by the way, simply agreed with the Beijing Djs. The other chap (who I presume you would regard as "ethnocentric" is an Aussie....

The fact that those who live in countries such as the USA, Canada, and Australia can more easily afford to DJ is a reflection of their countries' relative prosperity.

Perhaps it was this fellow in my post who happens to tick you off?

His toothless countenance screams ethnocentrism....

p.s.

hey

nice article, Hong Kong does not have that much of a great choice either but at least singles are around 60.

Australia is resonably close (I know it isn't exactly next door ), I wonder how much it would cost to import from an aussie internet store like vinalwarning.com.au...
