I hope we beat Partizan and get to play the game against Newcastle in the third round. It wont be easy, especially considering the tough awaygame in Belgrad, but I believe we have a really good squad, incredible for being a swedish team. You never know, Helsinborg, another swedish team, was able to knock Inter out of the qualifiers two seasons ago. To meet Newcastle, with their great suport and top squad with players like Shearer, Bellamy, Dyer, Robert etc would be amazing. And we were in the first division only three seasons ago!
Djurgården plays the "Ajax model" (4-2-1-3) and very offensive for a swedish team.
If we do meet look out for these players:
Kim Källström - Swedens biggest talent and without a doubt the best player in allsvenskan. great vision and passing ability. Works hard. Great shot and good at freekicks. Regular in the national team nowadays, has already scored 10 goals in 15 games from midfield this season. Only a matter of time before he leaves us for professional football in Europe.
Andreas Isaksson - 22 years. First keeper in the national team. Great reflexes, agility and reach. Only weakness is that he's a bit bad with his feet. Used to belong to Juventus, but came home because of the hard competition for places there.
Jesper Blomqvist - If he comes back to form. Just signed from Charlton. Used to play with Man Utd, Parma, Milan etc.. Could be great again, but has alot of problems with injuries.
Toni Kuivasto - New signing from a Norwegian club, I dont remember which tho. 40 caps for Finland and has had a marvelous start at the club. Strong, tough tackler. Good heading ability.
Hope someone found this post interesting. haha |
Thanks for that
I'll be following your game against Partizan, not sure who I want to win, I'm just interested who we'll play.
Apparently Malcolm Mcdonald played for you guys towards the end of his career (in 1979). He was a legend at Newcastle.

We just missed the quarter finals last season which is as far as Man Utd got. We outplayed Inter Milan on their home turf and we beat Juventus, a side who quite frankly outclassed Real Madrid. We've also got the extra experience which we didn't have last year.
The Asia Cup yesterday was a bit dissappointing, but for the first half we played a very under-strength side. Chelsea definitely had the better of the game, although they never looked like beating Given who looked world class in goal. Chelsea's long ball tactics certainly made them statistically the better side, something the commentators were keen to remind us of, but the majority of their "chances" came to nothing, just like ours. The pitch was pretty small which explains why it was like pinball at times. As for the penalties, I'd rather JJ learnt his lesson in a friendly than when it really matters. Bernard as usual played excellently, despite winning only a free kick after someone (Gronkjaer?) rammed their studs into his groin deliberately. Andy D'Urso later booked Bernard for a foul, which was hardly fair, but then this wouldn't be the first time D'Urso has shown a disliking for Newcastle.
Shearer was unlucky to hit the bar. If that had gone in I think we would have won.

There are two more recent rumours about his "major deal". One is about a possible Gallowgate extension, the other is about a Quentin Tarantino movie set in Newcastle!
This was an article in the Sunday Sun, before Freddy jetted off to LA:
| quote: | Sunday Sun:
"A north football club has emerged as one of the favourites to feature in a blockbuster film to be made by Quentin Tarantino's production team.
The Sunday Sun revealed last month that movie moguls have been in talks with soccer chiefs to try to decide which club to use for the big-budget flick Goal!
Producer Mike Jefferies hinted then that the big three teams in our region were in contention.
Industry insiders have since ruled out Middlesbrough and Sunderland, though, leaving Newcastle United as the region's only contenders in with a chance of hitting Hollywood.
The movie is a co-production between Mike's company, Milkshake Films, and Lawrence Bender, producer of Tarantino flicks such as Pulp Fiction, Reservoir Dogs and Jackie Brown.
Mike said: "I cannot comment on who it will be yet as we still don't know, but I can 99 per cent confirm that it will be a Northern team.
"The decision is being driven by the degree of interest and co-operation from each of the clubs we are talking to."
Goal! tells the story of a young Latino player from the US city of Los Angeles who comes to play in the English Premiership only to struggle with the harsh North winter.
It is expected to generate huge spin-offs and marketing opportunities in America as interest in the game there has hit fever pitch following the US team's semi-final showing at the last World Cup.
Mike said: "Lawrence and I fly into Paris on Friday to have a million meetings scheduled to coincide with the timing of the Confederations Cup Final.
"We will then be in England on Tuesday and Wednesday having more meetings before coming back to LA, so we should have a clearer idea after this trip.
"All I can say about Newcastle United is that we are more than interested in featuring the club, and its brilliant tradition, as the team which our hero plays for.
"The city of Newcastle and the Geordie people would undoubtedly provide a wonderful social backdrop against which our movie's story would unfurl.
"There is a lot of interest from a few fantastic clubs about Goal! They all seem to get the benefits of exposing their brand, through the movie, to the exploding US soccer market."
Shooting is still scheduled to take place in January and February 2004. |
Several news agencies on the internet are carrying a story that it will be a "Northern premiership club".
Another rumour...
| quote: | www.NUFC.com :
Less interesting than the film idea is that Freddy Shepherd & Douglas Hall are in LA to meet two venture capitalists who are funding a hotel scheme on the land surrounding the St. James' Park Metro.
Again, a conceivable notion given that a public notice recently featured in the local press stating that NUFC were applying for a liquor licence for that area. Part of this development could include the much talked about extension to the Gallowgate end with bars, casinos and hotels all part of the plans. |
Someone on a Newcastle forum did a photoshop image of what St James' Park will look like if the Gallowgate is extended:

And what it would look like if they were ever allowed to knock down those listed buildings and finish off the stadium:

Imagine that, the biggest club stadium in Britain and a 5 minute walk from the city centre! I wish someone would sort out those bastard buildings in the way.
