i was thinking the same thing for a few hours too, but i think there is a difference is the reasons for showing the pictures of soldiers versus the hussein sons. the pictures of the hussein sons were shown (mainly) for proof: they are unquestionably dead, a point that's important to disseminate when you are trying to quell support for the old regime. i think it's an issue where the benefits outweigh the ethical questions.

al-jazeera was showing pictures of random american soldiers, not leaders or people of recognition. i don't think cnn has been broadcasting pictures of random dead iraqis for the sake of parading and showing off. i do not know this because tv news is appalling to me and i will not watch it.

in regard to desentization via video games: to me there is such an enormous difference between a human and an animated game. i have a strong stomach and an unusual interest in surgeries, but there are real dead people. so different.

that's true. the main purpose of those photos being released was so the Iraqi public would see the old regime crumbling.

Muslims bury their dead as quickly as possible, preferably before the sun sets on the day they die. This practice is enforced by a Muslim saying: "A fast burial is the highest honor to the memory of a deceased one." Therefore, this footage is offensive to Muslims--just as the footage of dead American GIs was offensive to many Americans.

Actually, an American news team spoke with a leading Muslim sheik, and he said that so far, what the Americans were doing was fine with Islamic law. Now, all they are doing is waiting for someone to step forth and actually claim the bodies. Of course, no one is probably going to do that, so they will be buried by the Americans in some wartime cemetary.

BTW, the muslims also believe that a body should be put straight into the ground, i.e. no coffin. That way, they are closer to Mother Earth and Allah.

personally, i think they took 'proving they're dead' a little too far. there is a difference between informing and galavanting.
it's good that they're dead, and now we know it wasn't just a rumor...so they should stop at that.
when i'm flipping through channels i don't really wanna see a big ugly dead body, i dunno about y'all.
you may get off on that shit.
perverts.

showing dead people on television is tacky. people in this country are the most naiive people on earth. it is because nothing has happened to them. 9-11 and they think they have seen war... these people havent seen war, nor have i. i have a certain restraint about who i slander, what i believe, and who i tell it to. i doubt any of you are a threat to me, if you are, its already too late.

i dont watch television, i read the newsprint to soak up the lies, and from there i can paint my own pictures of what might have happened, given the pattern of lies reported in this case.

information "truth" is verifiable from what can be seen
misinformation "lies" like "truth" has an internal structure, and its own set of rules so that it may be false, it certainly reveals a lot about the people who believe it.

I guess it's because those guys were mass murderers and psychopaths.

On the other hand, it is hypocritical of the americans to be against showing their dead soldiers while on the other hand they're showing dead enemies.
