Can't believe I made it through work today... and now it's hell, such a weird feeling when your brain wants to sleep but your body doesn't, but hey, it was worth it!
Anyway, got there at about 11:15 and there were about 8 people inside. After Orkidea came on though, the crowd did grow to a pretty nice size - I wouldn't have minded a few more people, but I liked having the room to dance, and it's cool when half the room is people you know. (The other half, I presume, were Tribers, whom I know nothing about, but some of them were pretty cute). My first time at Afterlife - seems like not too bad of a place, it doesn't have much in terms of lighting or decor, but then again, most clubs other than Viva and the Guv don't. And who needs that crap anyway, as long as the sound system is clean, which it is.
Well, Orkidea's set was surprisingly awesome. I can't believe I was listening to 2 hours worth of prog house and breaks and actually enjoying it, but hey, this guy knows what he's doin'! By the way, one of the breaks tracks he spun was a totally warped (but good) remix of Domination [Way Out West]. Great transitions, great track selection, it sucked that TWO of his CDs were scratched, but whatever, not his fault!. I think when that happens, the DJ should just snap the POS in half and throw the pieces out into the dancefloor. I think what I like the most about Orkidea - which has become pretty clear to me after seeing him a few times now - is that even though he stays away from too much cheese, he also doesn't play stupid noise tracks (you know, the ones that sounds like beeps, farts, incomprehensible monotone Esperanto vocals and some hi-hats and a bass drum?). I'm hedging my bets that this DJ was classically trained, but maybe I'm wrong.
What was up with the police walking in at about 3 AM? I noticed the club shut down the jungle room early, did it have something to do with that, or did it just shut down 'cause it was empty?
Personal comments and shoutouts:
Drew - nice to see you made it down, always a pleasure.
Drew's friend - yes, I'm an idiot and I can't remember names after 4 AM, so sue me. Was nice meeting ya though, you're hardcore, sounds like WEMF is part of your religion.
John - you made it! Where'd you disappear to, though? You made a post at 4 AM, why didn't you stay!?
Az - didn't think you'd make it either... hope your 'chat' went smoothly, hahaha.
Mako - Pure Gino, what can I say.
Samhouse - I'm not sure if I met you, were you with Mako? If so, nice to meet you too.
Resnick - haven't seen you since Gielen, get out more!
Jacob - great chatting and thanks for the ride!
Christina - you and Del were making me bust a gut half the night. Roommate's cool too, didn't get his name though.
Erika - good to finally have a formal introduction.
Sooper & Hansolo - a pleasure, but you guys weren't nearly drunk enough (that's what happens when work is on the horizon though eh.)
Nat - still mad?
Kati - << she actually looks like her avatar! Was awesome meeting you, hope we see some more of you in future parties. (and your buddy - Pepi?).
Chris, Mirza, Navid, Margs, Ray, & Monish - no comments needed, you guys rock period.
Oh and of course Graham - DEEZE NUTZ, ya damn no-show!
Sorry if I forgot anyone, it was awesome seeing so many tranceaddicts out there to support.
Peace!
