Yep.

I had to go on them after I was manipulated and used by a "girlfriend". Before I met her though, I had alot of traumatizing experiences from Junior High, etc.

I would isolate myself from my friends and my family. I wouldn't go to work. I would sleep all the time, I didn't eat. It was horrible. One day I just couldn't take it anymore and I had a nervous breakdown. I never went so far as to trying to take my own life, but I definately had thoughts about it.

Depression is a horrible, horrible thing and I know exactly how you feel. I tried everything before I finally had to go on medicine -- I exercised, I tried to find new hobbies, I even tried to get another job, just too take my mind off it. But like I said, eventually I just had to go on the medication.

If I was you, I would definately go see a doctor and see what he/she has to say about it. From what it sounds like, you definately have a chemical imbalance.

All Anti-Depressants do is balance you out. And that my friend, is a wonderful, wonderful thing.

Take Care

-Tim

I've been fighting sever depression, extreme social phobia, ODC, ADD/ADHD for years, and after al that I've been through, such as not even being able to answer a phone, or even post on thedr forums (due to social pohobia), I finally decided its time for help. I finally got on Ritilan and Paxil, and it seems to be helping. The best way to cure depression, other then suicide (not saying its the best, but easy way out), is to go on meds. Since its believed that depression is caused by a chemical imbalance in the brain (from what I remember the dopmine and setorine (sp?) levels in the brain are messed), meds are a good way, which usually work and makes you feel so much better IF and when they finally get working (since most are not really on / off type of meds, and take a while to ' kick in '), a patient will begin to feel better, and thats something that happened to me. Now its like living my life all over again and being happy and such. You aren't on them forever like others said, just untill you get balanced out, and they are NOT addictive.

You can fight depression without meds, like others have said its much harder and takes longer.

Best of luck to anybody fighting depression like me, because I know its hard. Just take my word for it, meds are great, even if you may not want to take them, its worth a shot.

Now, time to go outside and enjoy this fine weather.

Does anybody else find it odd that people are willing to "experiment" with the illegal drugs that can potentially kill us yet are unwilling to try out the 'healthy' drugs perscribed to help us because they come from the big, bad pharm company? That's a weird type of paranoia to have.

i dont think many of these anti-depressants are safe. i work in pharma. i know what it takes to get a drug approved and how little we really understand the mechanisms of our active ingredients. i feel far more comfortable with several illegal drugs than most anti-depressants.

Please tell me that as a chemist, you aren't more comfortable with the possible side effects of E than an anti-depressant? Certainly we cannot know the full effects of a drug with 100% certainty, but at least FDA approved drugs have to undergo clinical trial periods before they are approved. With what we know about E, we only know from tests conducted on tainted sample populations with inconclusive results that it may cause parkinson's disease, brain damage, stupidity, whatever. At 19 when you first tried it, did you break out your chemistry kit to analyze it and came to the determination that it was likely safer than any anit-depressant approved by the FDA? My point is, you experimented with drugs before for reasons of pleasure, why the hesistation to experiment with drugs now for reasons of health? Plus the experimenting you would do now for health is likely less risky than the experimenting you did before.

Edit: I'm also contracted to a pharma client right now so I know a little bit ... probably not as much as you however

Someone I know did LSA (like LSD a lot) a little while ago and said it helped a lot with her depression, and was very thought provoking. I was surprised to hear her concerned about her own wellbeing last I talked to her, because she was normally self destructive. I'm not saying that this is the answer, because I know a lot of people who've done acid and say it ruined their life, but I think there may be therapeutic uses for illicit drugs.
Another one of my friends has tried prozac and all, and said it helped for a while, but he had a lot of trouble writing music on it. He now uses pot exclusively to deal with his depression.
I am personally drug free though.

I am going to start taking Fluoxetine shortly. I'm a bit scared because of possible side effects but I think it will be worth it.

The doctors say I have social anxiety but I think it's something different. I am very scared of how people judge & perceive me. I never talk unless I know the person really well. Everyone thinks i'm shy but i'm just too scared to talk. I feel it's better for them to have no opinion of me than a bad one. The strange thing is I feel normal around most older people. It's those who are my age (16) that make me feel very nervous. I hate when they put attention on me. It makes me feel very sick inside & I usually end up vomitting or not being able to breathe.

I take hours to get ready when I go out because I don't want people to think bad things about the way I look. Even though I know deep down I will never probably see these people again I can't help it. I don't feel happy anymore. I have no motivation to do anything. I can't control my emotions at all & I say many things I don't mean.

I don't want to be this way anymore & that is why i'm going to try Fluoxetine. I thought for so long that I could change myself. I thought that once I liked the way I looked everything would be ok. This was such a stupid thing to think though. I'm never going to like myself without some kind of outside help. I know I have alot of things wrong with me but i'm so embarrased by it I just try to push it away. It's been over 2 years since I started feeling this way. I've wasted 2 years of my life & I don't want to waste anymore because of this.

I feel like such a failure for taking them even though I haven't yet. I wish there could be another way but unfortunately there doesn't seem to be one.

good luck.

and thanks clyde... though i am a beleiver that your post count is proportional with the level of your unproductivity.
