The A and B plots of the crossfader needs to be assigned to a channel. If you look at any other 4/5 channel mixers, you'd see a crossfader assign knob with channels 1, 2, 3, 4, or 'THRU'. "THRU" is where it assigns all channels to that side of the crossfader, which in effect lets you keep the crossfader in the middle and use the channel faders to mix in sounds from ALL channels. The DJX700 DOES NOT HAVE THIS, it is only assignable to channels 1 - 4 only... this means its just a fancy 2 channel mixer.

hardly a huge oversight as not many people mix more than 3 decks/cds at the same time!

although it would be nice it is not entirely essential

Of course you can have more than 2 channels at once playing!!

Use the faders instead of the x-fader!!

wow. what a stupid stupid oversight. what's the point of a 4 channel mixer if you can only play 2 at once? TwiloNYC is right, this means it is only really a two channel mixer.

It has 8 inputs, 3 phono, 3 line, and 2 cd (cd and line are the same thing though, i don't know why they would seperate them)
http://www.behringer.com//DJX700/djx700_rear.jpg

my 3 channel vestax has NINE inputs, 3 phono, and 6 line, and I can play 3 of them at once. not to mention 2 mic inputs, and the behringer only has one.

I was thinking of upgrading, but in light of that, i don't think that i will. the only benefits are the FX, beatcounters, and cheap price.

why would they not put that on, surely, it's got to be pretty easy electronically to just ignore the crossfader? like the DJM500/600 can do.

well, from what twiloNYC said, you can't..

but on second thought, maybe it's setup so that the channels selected on the crossfader use the fader, but the other channels are "live" all the time.

that's how it is on my vestax, and it would only make sense. I honestly can't see behringer leaving out the ability to play more than 2 sources at once, that must be how it is.

@TwiloNYC, have you actually used this mixer?

well i dont exactly plan on mixing more then 2 channels at once. whats the point on mixing like 4 chanels ato nce? it would b insanely hard and i cant really think of a decent benifit to it. so im still gona get it.

No I haven't used it. I was seriously considering upgrading to a four channel from my Pio DJM300 and the DJX700 seemed like a godsend. Incredibly affordable 4ch mixer that would rival $800+ units.

On 3 channel mixers I believe, the 3rd/Mic channel is ALWAYS live or atleast selectable. I really hope that that's the case with the DJX700!! But I think on 4ch mixers, it works differently.

I've read somewhere that it couldn't mix all the channels like other 4 ch mixers. So, to confirm this I went to Behringer's site and read all the documents available for the unit.... nothing about its ability to mix more than 2 channels at once (and by the looks of the x-fader selectors, it certainly backs that theory up).

Oh and big dave: the main reason for considering that mixer (upgrade from my 2 ch) is to have the ability to be more creative! I mean think of the possibilities: i got a dual cd deck + 2 tts. With it, I can have the cd on a beat loop, mixin a melody and drop in an acapella to virtually create my own song on the fly. And switching all the time btwn line/phone is such a bitch....
