hrmm I dunno I was accepted fairly quickly by the TOTA gang even when I disagree with some of them. I went to the first TOTA meetup at system only after two months of posting on TA, and everyone was very friendly.. heh I still remmeber the conversation with a drunken certain Diginut .. lol TOO funny!! I'm looking forward to tommorow night! All in all I think it comes down to respect, you can disagree with people on issues, but if you just go after a persons personal attributes then thats when things get out of hand. *shrug* my .50 CENT!

i post on other boards apart from TA. And when I first joined these boards, including this one, i was careful not to speak my mind right away. Instead I tried getting a feeling of how people reacted to certain comments and the persona of the virtual community. It's okay to disagree with people, no one here is suggesting that only certain views be allowed. I think what the issue is, is the manner in which these views are expressed.

oh yea.. and then there's always that ignore button which is available at any time.

i completely disagree with u Dr. Z...

since:

1. Partyprincess aint a newbie...shes been around for a loong time. I have been friendly with her online (and when she says something i dotn agree with, of course i state otherwise..its human)

2. on the theory of nebies with "radical" ideas...thers a reason for TOTAs not liking that....heres a scenerio:

you walk down a street and u see a bunch of Goths having a friendly discussion etc. u go straight up and act like ur part of them but calling them names or making jokes about their appearance or something of that nature like u would in a group of your own.

how do u think they would react??

they wouldnt like it cos they dont know u AT ALL and ur jsut butting in and acting like uve known them for years.

the way anyone would get into a group is by being nice, knowing them for a bit, getting to know the others and then putting up their "ideas" (which i didnt find any "radicals" doin) and basically talkin freely with acceptance from the others knowing that ur part of the big family.



yea we may be a clique. but u know what?? any TA that has personally met another face to face, even if they have flamed the fuck out of the other on the boards will know that its nothing personal said on tehse forums and knows how the person is.

partyprincess and Mjuzik (or whatever his name is) have never done that...

i have flamed/argued with many TAs before meeting them..and u know what?? they walk up to me or see me at a party and i dont bitch at them cos of something they said on teh boards..cos this is nothing that should be taken seriously...

i have been told to lighten up on the boards myself..im not denying that i take everything lightly on here...you should do the same and actually get to know us..

But I also think that there is one thing to state your opinion in a respectful fashion and another to state it in an arrogant fashion that puts everyone elses opinions down. I think that some of these people that are asking for the boards to be open minded and accepting are just being hypocrites at heart. Practice what you preach. Don't tell me to be open-minded and accept your opinion if you won't even consider that there could be another side to the story.

well, i feel that i have found acceptance regardless of having some unpopular beliefs (feminism/gay postive etc). i think that teh people that have been ostracized have often been ppl that did not adhere to the PLUR concept that you signed off w/ drazen. but i appreciate the time and thought that went into that post.

This is a prime example of how some fights start. A person replies and his post can go both ways. But I have been around long enough to know that this is LKD and that's how he posts. It doesn't piss me off as much as it did when he first started posting.
