Here's an atricle that I'm working on that will be featured on "Blender" Friday at 6pm on BPMTV:

GOLDCLUB SERIES IS NO MORE

The huge club & concerts promoter GoldClub Series has recently been shut down, in which its website simply states: “Due to Federal Legislation, effective October 1, 2003 we are no longer supporting this site. Thank you for your interest.”

Why would such a successful promoter of some of the best club and concert events across Canada suddenly decide to shut its doors? Gold Club series was a program put together by Rothmans, Benson and Hedges Inc., and in the last couple of years the Federal Government has been reducing the number of smoking areas across the countries, including bars, clubs and restaurants.

The final stage of the Government’s new anti-smoking legislation occurred this past Wednesday October 1, and severely restricts the marketing of the tobacco industry, including advertising and sponsorships. So goodbye Goldclub Series, goodbye Montreal Formula 1 and goodbye to almost every musical, drama and live entertainment form that you’ve seen in the last 20 years. But of course the arts and entertainment will live on, with a new type of sponsor. Who should be the new responsible, healthy and positive alternative in which we wish to have our youth and future children grow up to have as their new sponsor and supporter of future arts and entertainment? The Liquor companies, of course. Drink up kids.

i thought about this too .. but the only problem with this is that usually when there's a liquor company doing an event ie. Smirnoff Experience, Heineken Thirst, they end up having exclusive rights to the alcohol distribution so it ends up such that no other company is allowed to see their booze at the event. I dunno if some clubs would be too willing to do this all the time ..

i guess we'll juss hav to wait and see what happens!

well as long as it's for those special occasions only , i don't think the clubs will refuse (1 night every 2 months let's say)
