väth = most controversial figure in techno scene. some absolutely adore and worship him, other detest him.
Check out Frankfurt's techno history for more on this topic. It seems he was kind of an arrogant bastard from what I understand. If he didn't like you/your sound, you weren't going to have success in FFM.
Sven Väth is the MAN! I think he's way underrated...but maybe it's because this is a trance-forum that no one ever speaks about him?
Yeah, you hit it on the head. Kind of ironic considering he was a "king of trance" back in the early days.
personally I saw him once (5 hour set) and wasnt that impressed.
What you need are early Clubnights! : ). He won't blow you away with his mixing or his commentary but he played some great tracks.
I saw him twice in Vancouver ... I think in 94 and 96. First time was good; second time, he was steering towards techno and away from trance, and I didn't enjoy it as much.
