It's just because of jackasses like that guy who wrote those reviews or whatever, that kids today is calling Scooter for techno...that's just bullshit...Nothing pisses me off like when I see a commercial spot on TV saying "Absolut Dance ## - The latest of trance & techno blah blah", and then DJ Sammy and Scooter is playing in the background...

I think you guys have different standards for what to call TECHNO. Obviously SCOOTER is TECHNO but not in underground club-oriented setting. I think SCOOTER itself might be a guilty party calling their recent album "The Stadium TECHNO Experience". Oh well...

what is with ta's in training calling all electronic music techno
people that say techno while referring to non techno songs obviously don't listen to any genres of electronica, i was reading time magazine and it said madonna songs were techno and he also used the words cold and without feeling, he was obviously a clown

I don't know if you noticed but at stores like Sam Goody they label all electronica as "techno". Anyway, what Time Magazine was that article in? I'd like to take a look.

Mate, I know it may sound like a joke, but this is techno. In fact, this thing is funny because it's true.

The media usually calls techno anything that sounds electronic because they're a bunch of experts on things they don't know. As simple as that: and unfortunately people buy it, so it became an "umbrella term" almost as meaningless as "electronica". If you really want to know, most Scooter tunes could be easily labelled as sub-genres of house music (the cheesiest ones, that's for sure), with some hardcore, trance and even drum'n'bass or electro influences in it.

But techno? Mate, I used to like Scooter a lot when I was younger (I listened to 6 whole albums) and no, there was no techno ... at all Maybe you could say that "Scooter - Move your ass" is acid techno, but it's muzzarellic acid trance

Shame / Disagreement

who cares what the music is called by other people. Most people who dont listen to electronic music regulary should just call it whatever the fuck they want. No need to be all political correct. Besides, its sometimes difficult to classify an artist or dj as a certain genre anyways.

just my thoughts

That's why I don't slag people off just because they think that Lasgo is techno: they wouldn't listen to Chris Liebing anyway, why mind?

However, someone who posts here supposedly like electronic music, so why not give him some info on "what is what"? This way he can improve his knowledge about electronic music

You get paid to do electronica reviews, yet you call scooter techno??

how the hell did you get hired . From what i have heard, scooter seems to be sort of cheese/commercial trance kind of stuff, i can't say i've ever heard a techno track by them

No, I am not paid to do the electronica reviews. SCOOTER is commercial and it is electronic sound. TECHNO, is not the most fortunate term to describe it, however for less sophisticated audience that might fit the bill. :-)
