How shocking, another thread created to bash something or other.
Well allow me to dissent on this one. I don't always bring mine (which happen to NOT be cheapo Shopper's glasses) but plenty of times I do. And if I have them with me and I'm not wearing them, it's probably because I don't need/want them at the time (perhaps because the lights suck and I'm sober at the time?), not because I'm waiting to "surprise everyone." A few points to be made:
1. Lights. You guys can argue about it all you want, but the lights in the Guvernment are fucking blinding. At the last Theory in the Koolhaus, I forgot to bring my shades, and I couldn't even see the stage, just this CONSTANT bright red haze. They changed the lights about a half hour later, but it was still annoying. With good shades (like Revos, for example), you can actually see quite well in the dark while still getting rid of that nasty glare.
2. SMOKE! Disregarding the obvious statement that people who see fit to smoke everywhere they go shouldn't be ragging on shades-wearers who at least don't choke people around them... you smokers must understand that for us non-smokers, SMOKE STINGS OUR EYES. Believe it or not, those little sunglasses tack on an extra few hours before my eyes feel like they're burning up. Viva is the worst for this, but every club in Toronto has absolutely brutal ventilation, and those shades help a LOT.
3. Hiding eyes. I don't know about the people who wear clear ones, but anyone who's seen mine knows that you can't see through them at all. Very good when I've had a little too much to drink and go cross-eyed, haha. I consider this minor compared to #1 and #2 though.
4. I like them. I don't see how it's any different from getting decked out or gelling hair. Again, maybe for cheap Shopper's glasses this is kind of stupid, but for those of us who bother to get better ones, why do you think we bought them in the first place? Besides, it's just part of the culture, always has been, it's like wearing a hat to a jungle party.
5. Why do you care anyway? I think that if you care so much about what other people wear, you're out for the wrong reasons! Get a life and worry about yourself!
P.S. I'm not voting for cool, wank, or functional, it's just what some people do, let them do it in peace whatever their reasons may be!
