Traffic has a basic martial harmonic/melodic progression and rhythmic pattern that has been used by countless classical composers throughout the last 2 centuries, that's why it sounds familiar. This was very common from the late 19th century late Romantic period and Russian melodrama, but then exploited with irony in the 20th C. by the Soviet composers such as Shostakovich a Prokofiev. Tiesto gives the track a 21st century take and ambiance and shows why he's the leading artist of the trance scene.

People, wake up and smell the coffee. There are hardly any tonal melodies that haven't been done in the past.

you hit the needle right on it's head... I find traffic to be a brilliant track... but it seems almost trendy to bash tiesto on this site lately

but it's obvious that since tiesto became #1 dj everyone's been bashing him like it's the end of the world....

I wonder what would happen if Armin made it to #1
everyone wants their fave dj to be #1 and when they make it, it's bashing time... so lame

I pointed out on tiesto website that the intro to Traffic, just the single bassline part dum de dum... dum de dum... is very similar to Flash - The Closing Session - which Tiesto playlisted in Summer 02.

Yeah, it was me...
The similarity between the two tracks is not the melody but the main sounds.
