As for shutting out Trillian, Microsoft has already tried multiple times to "shut out" Trillian and other open-source apps like Miranda and consistently failed. But I'm sure they'll find a way to screw everyone like they always do... in which case I'll simply tell my MSN buddies to suck a lemon, because there's NO way I'm downloading M$'s clunky, bloated piece of unsecured spyware just so I can talk to stubborn asses who (a) think ICQ isn't pretty enough or (b) can't figure out how to use it at all.
How annoying that M$ is back to their old tricks, intentionally deviating from the standards and closing up their interfaces. That government antitrust suit really taught those assholes a lesson, eh?

It's unlikely trillian will be affected actually, so worry not
eeeeeh, mostly bs in that thread, even though a client use msnp8 or greater it will affect them, why should microsoft do this (check the link) otherwise?
probably they will set up some kind of identification server, though i'm pretty sure there will be ways to go around that...
