This is all news to me. Alberta is in the backwaters when Trance is involved. Heck, most people don't even know who the [beep] is Tiesto, Sasha, Pvd, or Avb is.

Sasha performed here, in Israel at Eilat and Tel-Aviv last week. He got bad reviews in the papers though.. I read his sets were boring..

soulstar, i know exactly what you mean, i live in vancouver which isnt too much better, its a pain in the ass eh..

a lot of people who call his sets boring (the vast majority) cant appreciate the depth and amazing technical skills and buildups he does. he may be the biggest a**hole of all djs, but he's earned the right somewhat because of the amazing accomplishments, and he's always played groundbreaking tracks before anyone else.

e.g. he played das glockenspiel in an EM of '99 w/ seb fontaine.
1999!!!! geez people are still hot for that track here in vancouver right now/

I remember Etown had Sasha and Digweed one time! I was sick so I couldn't go! It's going to be another century before they come by again!

I've only listened to Essential Mix (02/00 I think). It's not boring to me but rather slower bpm than epic/uplift trance, it's a matter of getting used to the different tempo and the atmospheric feel of the sets or individual tracks. I'm so used to listening to euphoric trance, it gets my neurons fired up - while Sasha's style takes longer sparks! My ears are tuned to only certain trance frequencies. LOL

BTW - I thought Van was more into progressive trance with mixture of progressive house? This is what I heard from eastern Djs say about Van's scene.

The fact is I have never heard epic/uplift/deep styles at my local raves in the past. I really like these styles of trance better than anything the my local raves play. We're way behind in the Trance scene. It's mainly hard trance, hard house, and D&B.

I think I'll just have my own little epic trance party: me, myself and I! LOL

soulstar, you're right... vancouver's club scene has a prog rep well-deserved, as hard house jungle breaks and a little trance are spun at parties (way out west bombed bigtime here because we're all ignorants.. foolz)

if you talk about sasha's 2-27-00 EM, feb 27, man that's amazing shit, the sampling in that esp. towards the middle point, you cant tell when one song starts at all and the next begins

i only knew this after i got a couple of the vinyls myself.

its deep, educating, SMART music.

not everyone's cup of tea because it isnt so obvious, but definitely one to be appreciated
