if you go out and party a lot, and you dont want to spend the $150 dollars on musician's earplugs, i recommend getting a pair of etymotic's. i picked these up last summer and wear them to every party. they are only $12 USD and sooooo worth it. they lowers the levels on all frequencies so the music still sounds good, but just not as loud.

your ears will thank you in the morning when you're trying to get to sleep!!

I've heard etymotics are excellent as well.

If you're going to get custom molded earplugs, you should expect to pay up to $300 for them.

I use the re-useable rubber ones from shoppers drug mart ($7). The foam ones are pretty crappy, and I'm told that once you take it out, you're not supposed to put it back into your ear.

A lot of people don't realize it but sound pressure levels at parties and clubs are so high that it does an immense amount of damage even after 30 minutes. People sometimes scoff at me for wearing earplugs but they dont' realize how helpful they are.

everytime i heard loud music, i get a static noise in my left ear, i think i might have to have surgery to fix this problem if it gets any worse,
are the etymotics really good, like does it affect the way the music sounds like some other ear plugs do?

I've had a couple of pairs of custom molded earplugs, and yeah, they're not cheap. Comfy and good, but at a price. I've already gone through enough ear troubles ever since I was young, operations and all. I think I should get in the habit of wearing earplugs when it comes to these events.

Be Cool!

Ive always used earplugs, ive got a black pair that have the large end that sticks out of your ear cut off so noone really even notices that there there This works the best for me but it sux wearing them cuz it feels funny.

DId u know that wearing earplugs for even a short lenght of time can increase the bacteria count in your ear by 400% ?

You're not supposed to do that. The stem that sticks out is an integral part of the earplug function and design.

Who cares if people know that you're wearing earplugs? The people that frequent clubs and don't wear earplugs are obviously dumbasses. In addition to being dumb, they'll be deaf as well. Add a little bit of old age to that and they'll be deaf, dumb, and blind.

Most people are too stupid to realize that being subjected to club sound pressure levels for even 30 minutes is doing some serious permanent damage to your hearing...

The threshold of feeling is around 90db. That's when the tiny folickles inside your ear start tickling due to vibrations in soundwaves and begin to cause hearing damage. Most clubs operate between 110-130db. So if 90db is enough to cause damage, think about what 110 is doing when you're dancing the night away until 7am.

...or better yet, when you're standing right next to that wall of speakers in the back of the Kool Haus and your ear starts to hurt because of distortion in your ear drum. That's the threshold of pain killing your ears.
