if you can afford it get something like a pioneer djm 600 or 500 dont say "oh im a begginer i dont need something fancy" casue in a few weeks you will be like " shit this mixer is such a noob mixer" you would be surprised how much you advance in your mixing.

I have to agree with WaX here, Technics NO QUESTIONS ASKED! But if you can't afford the Pioneer 600 [which many of us can't! ] try the Numark DXM-06, not a n00b mixer but not a Pro mixer either - just about right I think

1. With TT's, is there a big difference with the tone arms? ie. straight or s-shaped. Which is better for beat mixing?

2. I know that technics are the way to go, being the industrie standard and all but there bloody expensive. Does anyone use anything other than technics and what do you think of them?ie. torque, pitch controls etc.....

I have a few more but lost my train of thought but i'll see how these 2 go.

Cheers.....

virtually everybody on here mixes i think, which is grand as it obviously shows how passionate about music ppl are. technics are the industry standard, and yes, they are expensive, but it doesnt phase ppl from purchasing them as while they are a quality product, they're depreciation rate is quite low. take into account that if you decide mixing aint the thing for you, you wont have a problem at ridding them at almost the price you purchased them for. have a look at the trading post, ebay, inthemix forums. second hand techs are going for 600-700? retail is around 700-800. besides. the cost of equipment are only the beginning, just wait till ur hit with the plague of vinyl addiction.

Thanks for all the info guys.

Looks like i'll be saving my moola for a little bit longer. Or just owe the bank some more. I can get the 1200's for $750 but thats not loaded. so by the time i have the full set up i'd be looking at almost $2500.

I've already got the vinyl addiction but i'm sick of playing them on a shit deck. If i didn't spend so much on vinyl i'd would already had my decks.....

The dudes in the shops keep telling me that the s shape tone arm is better for scratching.... i think there talking a lot of the shit.

A slave for the crave.........

cheers.

Welcome mate,

Technics... I will say no more...

And yes, they are expensive, but you'll get something that will last for ever and something that you can resell for not so much less than you baught it for. So it's a good deal all round.

I'm also looking for a pair at the moment... Just thinking of getting one and then using my computer as the other channel, with my mixer, works fine until I save enough money to buy another.
