Jesus, was this flame really necessary? I just looked at your post and saw that you'd only listed PC3200 products, so I reasonably assumed that it was a requirement. Sorry for the misunderstanding!

Anyway..... shit brands of memory are obviously not something you want to put in your computer, same as shit brands of mobos or hard drives or video cards, so even if the memory isn't the problem, it probably wouldn't hurt to get a better stick.

Try reformatting and reinstalling XP, it could have been an isolated incident... if you run into the same problem, you'll definitely need to replace some hardware.

i think the problem is prolly with the speed of your ram and the clock speed of your CPU.

i don't know much about the athlon brand of CPU's and their clockspeed vs. multiplier settings

but all CPU's have a clock speed and a multiplyer
with say a Pentium 3 933mhz the clock speed is 133mhz the multiplier is 7. 7*133 is approx. equal to 933.

now i haven't been really keeping up on clock speeds and DDR memory and such, but what it sounds like is the clock speed of your memory is faster than what it is on the CPU.
hence thats why you had to reduce the speed of the processor for it to boot up.
but when you load windows xp on there you are going ot have a shitload of more instructions running through your mobo,memory,cpu and so if things aren't configured properly, its more than likely to crash with all that stuff going on.
i suggest you find out what your clock speed is on your CPU, then buy some good quality RAM which has the right clock speed for that CPU.

If you've ruled out the ram... try booting in safemode (press f8 as windows loads). If you can get in safe mode, disable your network card. You _might_ have some sort of irq conflict, 90% of times this is a poor network card causing the problem. Its worth a try. Besides that, start disabling various preherpals in hardware manager to see if you can isolate the problem. If none of these do it, your mobo is probably hosed.

Btw, how large is your PSU?

^ah finally hitting on the other problem that happens most, power supply. Check that, size and want not, and also check all your fans and make sure they are running right. I am also assuming you correctly used the thermal-gizz on the cpu.

A7V8X will support pc 2100 and above.

You have CP2700 Which is fine.

Spectek is a name brand of ram, not the chip itself. They are a budget ram. Spectek uses someone else's chip. much like crucial and kingston and many other companies do. The more pertinenet information is that actually located on the individual chips on the ram PCB.

As long as your new CPU isnt an Athlon XP 3200+ with 400fsb, then the pc2700 will be adequate as it will run at 333mhz and be more than willing to clock down to what you want.

I would suggest that you have a bad memory module. Download a memory tester like memtest 86 and run a memory test on your system. The errors that you have presented would indicate a bad memory module.

EDIT: it could be the actiual memory controller on the mobo, the memtest should show an error for that as well.

Hmm...I've got an ASUS mobo and I'm running 1GB of Geil 400MHz DDR memory. Haven't had any problems with it. So memory other than what is listed will work.

My mobo is the P4P800 though.
