aloep, your 80GB hard drive really is an 80GB one, but the thing is that when you assign large partitions as you have done, a lot of the hard drive space is used for the registers. Try splitting the volume into several smaller logical drives, and you'll see that the total will be much closer to 80GB.

And Flyboy217 was indeed correct, although it sounds awkward. A megabyte is not 1048576 bytes, as is commonly considered, it is flat 1000000 bytes. For a while the two systems existed side by side, but in 1999 IEC introduced a new set of classifications which are still largely not used though. Anyway, the binary megabyte is not called a megabyte, but a mebibyte, and the symbol for it is MiB. Same koes for the other values which are supposed to be kibibyte (kiB), gibibyte (GiB), and so on. The difference is pretty small in the beginning, but it does grow as the larger units are introduced. A TB compared to a TiB is already about 10% off.

Anyway, the lawsuit is flawed. The companies are correctly displaying the amount of space, but the operating systems are doing it incorrectly. You see, a hard drive that is 150GB large, as it says in the lawsuit really contains only about 140GiB of space. But it's the operating systems that are displaying it wrongly and saying that the drive has 140GB. It does not have 140GB, it has 150GB, but it only has 140GiB.
