There's negligence on both sides...it's rediculous that he won money. The guy was drunk regardless whatever else happened...he should be in jail, not receiving $600K.

Too everyone who thinks he shouldn't be punished...

...What if that truck was a little girl walking down the street from school, or anyone for that matter. Should they get sued for not putting cones in front of themselves? The guy was drunk and was driving. He was just above the legal limit, so it was illegal, not oh well it was just a little. This guy is scum. Innocent people die from drunks everyday, and the drunk is always the one who walks away unscathed. This guy definately does not deserve what he recieved.

peace.

Steve

That's the whole problem. People always just judge by the outcome. Look at the initial facts, lets just ignore the truck for a second. Someone was REWARDED for getting behind the wheel while intoxicated. Whether they're just above the legal limit or completely annhiliated, it makes no difference. The limit is set there for a reason.

There is no excuse for driving after having any amount of alcohol, period. If you're gonna drink, sit at home and lurk on TA like everyone else!

He was lucky not to kill anyone or himself. If he had killed someone else he should be in jail getting ass raped.

I'm not saying driving drunk is all right, DUH! But in this exact case, there was negligence that caused harm and it had to be punised e.g. truck driver negligence.

what if the driver wasn't drunk and still had hit the truck?? wouldn't it be fair to sue?

i've lost a couple of good friends due to drunk drivers (seperate times)... so i have no pity for anyone dumb enough to drive after drinking.

if he couldn't notice a truck sitting in the street how would he notice a child crossing the street?

people like this shouldn't be rewarded....

he's not fucking rewarded, you're talking as if he won a grand prize in a championiship by cheating??!?! he's now crippled! are you guys fucking dumb?!? sorry but seriously! This is ridiculous! what kind of mentality do you guys have?! grow up! The Trucker (or his company) has been punished because he has to pay 600K to the plaintiff who have been injuried because of THE trucker negligence!! notwithstanding the guy being drunk or not, It just doesn't matter in this case! The guy could've been high on crack or receiving a BJ or talking on the cell phone, or whatever, it just doesn't matter.

It's too hard to tell because the article is short and lacks detail, but in my opinion he took responsibility for his own actions once he decided to get into the car after drinking.

I mean seriously, who the hell runs into the back of a TRUCK? It's not like it's hard to see. And who's to say the truck hadn't just stalled moments before, and the driver was still trying to turn it over, seeing no need to put on his 4-ways just yet.

Either way, I don't see how the truck driver can be blamed for the idiocy of the driver, not only for drinking, but for driving into a truck ffs.

I am just wondering if anyone else drove by the truck and amazingly missed it in spite of his extreme negligence? Seems like the alcohol might enhance the actual danger with getting by the truck, e.g reduce reaction time.

seems absolutly rediculous to sue the truck driver, I think that driving drunk is a bit more serious of an offense than not putting cones around your truck. Or maybe canada has different priorities and they are stuck on getting all truck drivers to put cones around their truck instead of trying to get drunks off the road...hell they don't bust people for weed.

Most of us are wondering about your mentality, but like someone else said, what really happened isn't clear from the article. You'd have to have been at the scene to truly judge who is at fault.

That is perhaps a bit harsh on my part but if you've ever seen the damage an impaired driver can do to a friend or family member you would understand the anger behind that statement. Of course he shouldn't really be raped as punishment.
