most vocals in trance songs (well really most dance songs in general) are cheesy and stupid. many of the vocalists have very beautiful voices tho (partly due to editing done in the sound studio).

i love tracks which have vocals where you don't know what they are saying. like some indian or tribal woman singing their heart out. or when they are in some language i don't know.
also i like it when the vocals are choped up and filtered and whatever so that you can't actually make out what they are saying like in james holden - nothing (93b returning mix)

This basically sums up my thoughts.

I was just gonna start a topic like this. I think that in some songs, the vocals just ruin the whole thing. I have heard tracks with great beats, but the vocals just ruin the whole thing.

Latest, and a horrible one, example of this trend.

Plastic Boy - Live Another Life (Vocal Mix)

It totally ruins the track!

When done well, vocals are amazing, when done badly, they suck.

Same as anything else in music really

Some vocal tracks are good (although I've hardly heard any this year) but some can ruin the track.

I'm talking about proper trance, euro-cheese is a different story altogether.

And then there are some tracks that the instruments ruin the vocals (like it was said)

And then there are tracks where vocals are used to their fullest extent as an enhancement to the track, which can take the track to the next level.

Vocals are much more likely to ruin a song than improve it IMO

Vocals are one of the key components that I love about Trance, I think what you have to be critical about is the cheesy songs that don't seem to have much creation to them. such as Mark Oh aka DJ Sammy aka Scooter who samples everything from past productions of other music, no originality whatsoever along with the other lalalalalala out there. I just ignore those songs, that simple.
