I buy most of my software or d/l shareware for free.

Except for games, I'll usually go get a hacked version first because I want to see how it runs on my PC, if I like it after that I'll go out and buy it. So far in the last 12-18 months Ive bought Tribes 2, Diablo 2, Q3, Operation Flashpoint, Balders Gate 2, Dune Emporer and a few others after downloading the game first.

Why?
Because game companies are as dubious as 2nd hand car salesmen and real estate agents (ie: scum) and dont do a good job of making a product worth the money you pay for it.

I think Lowtax from Something Awful summed up how most people feel about game companies-

quote:
After all, game companies don't owe ANYTHING to us, the paying customer! They don't NEED to sell a product that's finished or even works properly! We should be thankful that they're gracing us with their mere presence, allowing us the opportunity to purchase their products and then stare at our desktop after trying in vain to play them!

Russia is great, i always come back with a bag full of disks. I'll by some stuff like games and really useful utilities, but being 16 i don't have the income to buy something like photoshop illustrator flash fireworks and dreamweaver etc. let alone all of them And so the companies would call me lost income or whatever but i wouldn't have bought it if i didn't pirate it, simply because i don't have the money. In fact they can call me gained custom for the future, cause i've already got a central set of programs i won't stop using which are all Warez, but in the future there's a 99% chance that if i get to work in that kind of stuff then i'll get (or get my employer to get) all those programs legally, because i'm used to them, which is a plus for adobe and macromedia etc. Also if you don't try stuff out then you don't figure out what you like, i've got several hundred cd's of warez that i never use cause it's not for me. I read reviews that rant on about how great product X is, but i didn't like the product, and i'll never use it, and if i'd bought it i'd have a helluva time returning it.

Games also, i have maybe 4 or 5 boxes of crap games that i considered buying, but the games i do like and play i have purchased, Deus Ex, UT, Q3, C&C and many oldies. Every visist to russia sees me coming back with a few hundred programs, of which I might use only 10 regularly. That's proof that there is a lot of crap out there, and warez helps you sift through it.

I love it!!
I don't download a lot of warez, only if I need it. But it's really handy when you must buy a computerprog for €40,- wich you can also find on the internet..for free
