I don't reserve all terms of endearment solely for long-time friends.

Anyway, I hope you got what I meant from my last post. And yes, you're right when you say "it's all good".

I hate to get involved, but this caught my attention.

How can you expect a community to stay together when people display heirarchial, superior attitudes like yours, quoted above?

You've got to be kidding that you think your opinion is more valid than anyone else's here just because you've been a member of a MESSAGE BOARD longer than others. Do you not realize how ridiculous that sounds?

Why don't you just enlighten me, then.

(I'm serious. Because right now i just can't understand how anyone can logically think that their opinion overrides that of others for such a ridiculous reason.)

k wait, please don't say things like this for the sake of argument... I ramble on about jungle endlessly half the time including more than a few reviews and recently asking who's going to Theory, and you can't honestly say that you had no clue that someone with the name "TECHno Addict" was into Techno...

And if you just haven't been paying attention, that's not an excuse. Maybe we haven't been "paying attention" to the prog whores. We don't ask Ari and John to bring "DJs that we like" because we love the DJs that they already bring... so if they miss out on a few non-trance DJs, what's the big deal? They are primarily trance promoters! Those other DJs will come eventually, or I can just travel to see them.

My point is just that you're asking way too much... I really hate to say "DIY", I mean that term irritates the crap out of me, but seriously, DIY if you don't like it Art. People have obviously gone to great lengths to put these kinds of events together, and you haven't helped them organize or promote, so who are you to complain about the type of music they're putting on? Oh, right, is it because of...

Pure BS... just because I've only been a member for 9 months, doesn't mean I haven't been listening to (and making) electronic music for over 7 years... I know it doesn't compare to your 15½ and I'm sorry for that, but gimme a break here. As Sarah pointed out, absolutely NONE of this gives your opinion (nor mine) any more validity than the next guy. This is the event, if you don't like it, don't go or better yet, put together your own!

Jeebus, AS IF we don't have enough prog... the TA Invasions have been half prog, and you guys even have Deep Dish on the same day we have "predictable" Paul Van Dyk. And this is based on the false assertation that prog is a real genre...

P.S. I'm sorry Eso, I've tried lately to ignore these things, but this thread was just no place for this 'prog vs. trance' discussion.

What I am saying is there are and were a lot of TOTA's that have expanded into other geners and not somehow accomodating the rest of us does not make us feel a part of community. And not mention when people bash prog or vice versa on this board, this fucks things up between all of us even more.

Nope, sorry. They will play everything, like I said Ivals will most likely drop some kind of house. And even if they don't, big deal, like someone else said there are other prog parties and events that you/we can all go to to listen to prog and get the chance to play out as well, if not at that one so I see no reason to blame that part of things on the falling out of TA.
quote:

dude honestly, I've been told by someone (not you) on this board that apparently my opinion is not more valid that yours even though I've been a part of this community longer than you have.

That is COMPLETELY true. For example say that even if you have been spinning for 15 years, someone who has more talent and drive than you have and has been in the business and has spun for only a short while may be entirely better than you...it all depends on perspective. But in terms of a message board on the internet, EVERYONE's opinion is just as equal as another's...and sometimes this can also be true of real life. However there are instances where the example I listed above also occurs. It can be both of those or a variety of different scenarios.

quote:

I agree to a certain extent that there is a lot of prog being palyed in the city, but that does not necessarily mean that other up and coming DJ's like myself or Mecha get a chance to play out or anyone else that spins something different other than a super predictable set from Armin or Ferry or Tiesto. And I am not even talking about progg, I am talking about other smaller geners that don't get as much exposure and that is all lumped up in the eyes of most trance lovers into prog, there are so many different directions and sounds that it's impossible to describe it all as prog.

What does this have to do with your statement that TA is falling apart due to prog? (which I dont' think it is at ALL as we all hang out together and there have been prog djs that have spun at events held in the past as well...eg any ta invasion at System)

quote:

And you are absolutely right, if I don't like the lineup, I won't go, but this is not what my discussion was about in the first place. What I was trying to get across was that there is much more talent and to TOTA members thatn just trance/trancenights.

We all know that there is more talent, and so do the promotor's as they have seen all the prog djs at venues of the previous parties I mentioned. (see above) So why the need to constantly talk about it? Promoter's for this party are not blind, they just pick who they want in terms of music and who they feel fit what they want to do. I doubt they are excluding a certain genre of music and even if they do, like I said earlier, big deal.
