If you're serious about getting into the industry of sound production and composition, and want to master the 2 top industry standard applications, then you should get a copy of either or both of:
**Cubase
and/or
**Pro-Tools

you can get a "home-version" of pro-tools for about $1000 CDN. Cubase i believe has been pirated all over the net, otherwise, i think it runs around $500 CDN. Keep in mind, these 2 apps are used in top industry studios and need powerful computers and lots of time to read the manuals, and high quality listenning equipment.

Personally, I use FL-Studio-4-pro and love it. I just gotta get more samples and VSTs for it. I've got wicked stuff in the works on FL.

Don't forget about Logic. After trying it at a friend's place I'm really tempted to buy a new Mac G5(never thought i'd hear myself say that) and Logic 6. BTW, I currently use an old copy of Cubase.

sucks about the no VST, but if you have rewire you can use both Cubase and Reason. dunno how it works though...

My audio teacher in college (who also runs a studio) said today that he actually prefers "Nuendo" to both protools and cubase. And yes, he has (and uses) all three programs. It is somewhat strange that people don't mention nuendo much at all.

i'm a fruity user, but reason sounds good too.
but there is something it does with the sound quality too make it more CPU frienldy or something...

there is some thread that explains it all.... but fruity is the best.. you don't need anything more.. haha

Some people say , reason has not VST support, so its not that good...

Well let me tell you this..I was thinking in the same way, but you know after some friends helped me out with it, i liked it!!..

With reason you can make any sound you want, you dont need VST, VST makes stuff easy, like press trance preset and you have a nice sound..reason lacks the good presets though, so you have to learn..

Reasons quality, iv been using it since it came out but the lack of vst support is a total pain in the arse and can be very limiting. The rest of it is really good though and using rewire you can run reason into cubase and have vsts going in cubase. I used to do this but to be honest i absolutley hate cubase, its so user unfriendly and even though iv been using it for years it still pisses me off.

Fruity loops is sheer class, iv only just really got my head round it but it didnt take long tho, its simple to use and has everything you could possibly need, its got a certain smooth feel about it, i love reason and fruity loops both but up until now the only way of using both of them in a track was to run them both into cubase using rewire for reason and having fruity as a VST. I did for a while but you need a really powerful computer to run cubase, fruity and reason at the same time and all cubase is doing is linking the two together and wasting cpu power. The good news is fruity is getting rewire support meaning you can run reason into fruity, problem solved, you can just use both and use vst fx n fruity fx on any of the reason chanels(with rewire you get 64). As for cubase, i'd be quite happy if i never have to use it again.

Basicly fruitys the best but now theres no reason to choose between reason n fruity, just get em both.

Hope this helps.
