Yes eventually they will crack, but eventually sennheisers pop a cone or the lead snaps, etc etc
Every pair has its ups and downs- they are all good phones- bottom line is you wont go wrong with any of them.
If my sonys crack after a year ive still got 52 weeks x 4 nights of use out of them....more than happy with that |
OIC. But on average, the Sonys break sooner than most other headphones do. (I'm talking about the current-model MDR-V###DJ series models here, such as the MDR-V600 and the MDR-V700DJ.) And when your Sonys break, depending on where you live at, you may have no choice but to buy a whole new pair - at full RRP. At least the Sennheisers' parts are user-replaceable.

I just bought a pair of 1000's yesterday, and I'm about to take them back in about 5 minutes. I was using the Sony 600's, and actually liked them a lot. They are kind of big and klunky, but I was very happy with the quality of sound. Anyway, I had the money and decided to upgrade to the 1000s. I think, or at least hope that the ones I got were just defective, cause they suck. First of all, the left earphone is louder than the right. The sound is overall very very flat. I don't know if that's the technical term, but my Sony's seemed to have a much fuller sound, much easier to match beats, IMO. The main reason why I'm taking these back is that they have a very very low crackling noise that occurs when a song hits a long, high breakdown of sorts. I was playing AVB's Slipstream, and when that ambiance kicked in, I heard this faint static noise in the background. I hit theleft cup and it went away, and then 5 seconds later it came back aain. Hit it again, and it went away. I don't know if that's just the way the Pioneers are made, but these things are definitely not worth the $150 I spent for them if they are. Anyway, I'm taking them back after Ipost this, and am na go with the MDR-V700's.

Well, not everyone hears the same things. My experience with the Sonys is that they're WAY overpriced for the sound quality that they deliver. The MDR-V600, in particular, sound muddy, echoey, dull and lifeless all at the same time - and whatever bass coming out of that 'phone is loose and one-noted and doesn't go at all deep, and whatever treble excreted from it rings like an unmusical schoolbell. It would be an okay headphone - if it were priced at $20. But the typical superstore sells it at the full $100 MSRP! The MDR-V700DJ is almost as bad as the MDR-V600: Everything from the mid-bass through the midrange completely overpowers what little deep bass and upper midrange and treble that it delivers. And both of those Sonys have a strange peak in the mid-treble (roughly 10kHz), while leaving the frequencies surrounding the 10kHz region very recessed. Unfortunately, the frequencies that are recessed include the all-important upper midrange/lower treble region.
Sorry, guys, but neither the Sony MDR-V600 nor the MDR-V700DJ delivers enough upper midrange or lower treble response to hear the beats properly. And that upper midrange~lower treble region is very critical to beatmatching - even more so than emphasized mid-bass.
