But danny tenaglia's mixing skils are amazing. You never see him trainwreck, you never really see him mess up. Yes he might play 15 min records but his mixing is quality and that is what I thought a technical deejay was all about.

Or are you trying to tell me that someone who mixes records in fast and does it well rates higher in the rating of technical deejays. I thought this was technical, not about the type of music they played because if you go by mixing records in quickly and doing seemlessly then you would have to add the turntablists like mixmaster mike, q-bert and kid koala.

Well, when we talk about great technical skills, it come closer to the talent of turntablist. Because if we are only talking about mixing 2 records, 2 mnay dj's can do it perfectly, it has to be more difficult than that.

What I mean is if you try to mix like Ben Sims, you will have to practice 1000 times more than to mix like Danny T.
So imagine with Qbert? But it's no more dance music so it's not comparable.

you just can't compare a trance dj to a techno dj. You can't do shit with a trance record but with a techno or house record you really have a lot more versatility. Try to spin 3 trance tracks at the same time

Thats why i got more interested, as a dj, into techno, house, everything that is not trance

djdan, we are not comparing for them being tired or not. but also remember no one tries to think about those djs that travel 24/7 and getting $35,000+ salary per night,limos, etc.but has nothing to do with the this topic.

with danny tenaglia being able to spin all kinds of music and being able to carry out his sets for extremely long he must have extreme talent.. then again it depends what you define as a technical genius?.. being on cue.. harmonically matched? scratching skills? improvisations?

alot of hip hop djs can scratch like crazy (as well as other djs) but cant beat match at all

what about james zabiela he can scratch for the longest amount of time and make it sound good with the music he spins.. hard techno djs are very good at layering tracks.. and quick mixing

so all in all it depends on what defines technically best


personally all djs have their good days and bad days.. im sure tenaglia train wrecks sometimes.. all djs do... layering 3 tracks will also turn out bad sometimes..

its a tough desision.. i dont know who to vote for.. but tenaglia would definately be up there

From what I've seen:
Sander K and Deep Dish - best house DJs
PVD - best trance Dj
Marco Corola - best techo DJ
And I agree with Dj Dan that mixing is not how many effects u're able to pull off, but how smooth the transition is. Another thing is that all those effects u can pull off on house music - there's no way u can do that in trance, trance is not made so that u can play on 3 turntables or put in different acapellas and sounds all the time, b/c it just gets messy!
