Heh, but seriously, it was the ducks who saved the Rome in its beginnings...or was it geese? I can't remember.

Umm, that was a wolf if I'm not mistaken.

But, no, I'm not talking about that incident, I'm pretty sure those two wouldn't get much milk from a duck

Anyway, in early stages of Roman state, the gauls (or whatever you spell them) wanted to attack the city of Rome. Most of it was defended well, except for one cliff. So the gauls climbed over that cliff. But near that cliff was a temple with holy ducks/geese or whatever and they started quacking loudly. So the roman guards came there and chased away the gauls.

hmm never heard that story. It probably was the etrusceans at the early stages of Rome, or Carthrage.. Gauls came only latter near the end of Rome to sake it.

Hey I gotta go back to the store to return that duck milk I bought

I agree with you on that one....I bet you not to many have much real life experience besides quoting source after source. Reading and educating yourself is important but go and see the world for yourself

Actually if we put this to the test, i gaurantee you that the majority of the poeple who post here have had more 'worldy and life experiences' then those posting on other forums, not to sound arrogant of course

It was in my latin book from high school. I'm pretty sure it said it was Gauls, although I can't find a book anymore so I can't confirm it. It wasn't Carthage, I'm sure of that, though. But it's not important. The morale of the story is that farm animals can be good guards and can sometimes save entire cities.

Btw, I think you're confusing Gauls with Goths. Gauls were conquered by Caesar and were pretty much assimilated and never heard of ever since.

Are you sure about that? In every single instance that I've read about, Asterix and Obelix have always kicked the crap out of the Romans. Plus with getafix's potions how could the Romans ever conquer Gaul?

Yes, I guess you are right...I forgot the exception of that one little village to the north that didn't accept Vercingetorix's defeat

Thats true and I do remember at least one instance when they did enter Rome too... But I can't recall any farm animals warning of their approach...

On another note, I actually do believe the Gauls had actually made ventures into Rome in addition to the Goths. Well if not that then how about Charels the Great, does that count?

Yeah, there was the "Asterix and Obelix in Rome" comic, and I don't recall any farm animals there either...maybe somewhere exists a lost Asterix and Obelix scripture in which such an event is described. Something like the Dead Sea scrolls.

Yeah, well, I guess he must have had some gauls as his sidekicks. But I don't recall any farm animals during his crowning in Rome either.

Btw, occrider, is that potion making druid called Getafix in english translation? I know they called him Aspirinix in croatian/serbian one.
