I don’t use one ear – If the live track is the right TT I use my right ear to cue and vice versa.

One ear monitoring for beatmatching.

I favor my right ear for the current track and my left ear to listen to the track in cue.

As a bedroom dj, I taught myself to mix in my headhpones, as I could hear both beats clearer... however, as I played on my school system, I found that listening to only the cued track in my headphones was enough... I still prefer to have them both on to beatmatch instead of leaving the right ear open.

My mixer does have split cue, but I don't care too much for it... I use it sometimes when mixing

I find the best thing for me for hitting just correct beatmatch etc is split que both tracks in phones, even though I have quality speakers 30-40 cm from me when mixing. And for pees playing out and saying shit like " dude what are you gonna do when you`re gonna play on a club and they don`t have split cue? " I`d say don`t play there because the mixer is obiously so crap you could use it as a rather bad tea-table. But then again, it`s all subjective.

so you wouldn't play at a club that used a pioneer djm-500? or a vestax pmc-07pro? or an allen & heath zone:32? or a rane mp44? or a rane empath? or a denon dn-x8000? and i believe that the technics shmx-1200 does not have a split cue either. you know, since none of the mixers i just listed have a split cue function they're obviously crap, right?
