The water going the other way has something to do with the earth's magnetic field that swings between the two poles. It creates like a negative charge below the equator or something, I don't know..

But that's nothing. Check this out!

You know why we have seasons? because the earth doesn't go around the sun in a balanced circular motion. It's levitates. So for six month it's a little underneath (so we get summer in the northern hemesphere) and for the other six month it's above the sun so we get the opposite.

Now! that levitation is created because the earth is not standing straight on it's axis but it's tilted forward by exactly 23.45°. Just what we need to get the perfect balance of seasons!

Now! Why is the earth tilted? Cuz the moon's gravitational field is pulling it forward just the right amount to create that levitation thus creating seasons and thereby allowing the earth to support life!

So next time you stare at the moon, think about that!

I'm not that sure coriolis effect is that irrelevant. Surely, it is overpowered by other effects like the direction of the water exhaust and stuff like that, but it does have some influence. Let's make a little test if you want...I'll turn on all my taps and shut the sinks/tubs exhaust and see how water spins when they're released. You do the same, and we can compare results then.

Hm, ok, here are my results, and they seem inconclusive...There is a mild clockwise tendency, but that might be a statistical error. I urge all the other people on this board to conduct a similar experiment in order to solve this problem once and for all.

I did read the article, but although snopes is often correct, I don't think it's the ultimate resource of truth and knowledge, so I've decided to test that theory. Especially because some popular science articles/shows do claim for that effect to exist.

It is true that the water goes everywhere, however my toilet does show a mild tendency of a counterclockwise twirl. However the toilet twirl is the most disputable one, as it is under influence of pouring water, unlike the sinks and the bathtub where I had the option of waiting for the water to calm down. So if we disregard the toilet as a most unsecure measurement, there is a mild clockwise tendency. Of course, it may be due to the angle/structure of my sinks, and that's why I need the other people here to make the same measurements to eliminate that possibility.

I've done this test before. It works trust me

The toilet bowl doesn't hold enough water for pressure to mount and make the water spin. It works real good when you're emtying the bath tub though!
