restaurants around the village area that i like: gotham bar and grill (they have a great lunch deal), balthazar, and blue ribbon (not the sushi place). the blue ribbon one is great b/c you can get a meal until 4 am and the best time to go there is for late dinners anyway. i love that place.

The only downfall is if you have to go to the bathroom you need to go downstairs through the comedy club, and usually the comics pick on you when you go to the bathroom. If your watching the show its actually quite funny to watch the comedians rag on the people having to go to the bathroom.
i had that happen to me when i went to that comedy club about a year ago, i thought it was funny, but then i had to walk back to my place and was a little nervous about that and then he made fun of me again. it was funny though.

Best sushi on the East Coast, and possibly the entire country: Tomoe Sushi on Thompson and Houston. Not really the Village, but close enough. They only take Amex and cash. No reservations or parties larger than five. Expect to stand in line outside for about an hour. WELL worth the wait.

this person knows good food! gotham bar & grill + prix fixe lunch = one of the best meals in new york
when i'm too poor to shell out for Gotham, Il Mulino or their Village ilk (which is most of the time) I hit these spots up in the area:
Moustache (excellent and unique middle eastern fare)
Frank (a poor man's il mullino)
Mythos (decent, not great, greek food though the atmosphere is friendly)
2nd Avenue Deli (a mainstay)
John's for pizza with a large group (altough Lombardi's in Little Italy has the best pizza in the city)
Corner Bistro (another mainstary) for burgers and good beer on tap
For Indian, I toss dice or throw darts to decide where to go on E.6th
i've also had decent Thai at this place right off 7th ave but the name escapes me
oh yeah, corner bistro kicks serious burger ass too.
