yes, timeline was good, but i just couldn't help but cringe when i read the obvious hollywood cliches, for examples, heroes that do amazing tricks and escape death at the last moment... and the ending... ugh... so even though i'm expecting an average movie, it's still on my "must see" list.
grr same here
i think the best movie in relation to the books was sphere, i absolutely loved that movie, almost as much as i liked the book
jurassic park's right up there too
congo and lost world definately being down at the bottom (read: if you've read the book and liked it, don't go see the movie, cause it's terrible in comparison)

i think the main problem with converting timeline to a movie would be that in MC's books, he can explain and rationalize everything as much as he wants, so he actually goes into a fair amount of depth in explaining the quantum theory behind it all
somehow, i doubt that filmmakers think our attention span is long enough to understand it all so they'll give us a crappy boiled down 'works for our purposes' version

like it'd be great if they explained it in the movie, but if you think about it, when its in a book if you don't understand it the first time through, you can re-read it, or read it slower again. can't do that with a movie

Sphere was great. Too bad the movie sucked. :/

Chrichton's books are great. If it isn't produced by Chrichton, don't expect top notch productions such as ER or Jurassic Park. If it isn't produced by chrichton, expect another The Lost World

timeline was a good book but not great like a lot of his previous works. there are some flat-out stupid/cheesy parts like the green knight fight and the ending..

and i'm guessing theyre not going to bother with the language differences unlike the new mel gibson directed movie about jesus which is completely in the ancient languages.

I think the movie will do the book justice. Look at the trailer; it's not bad.

As for the book itself, I liked Jurassic Park more and Sphere 10000X more.

Sphere, people, Sphere!!

Timeline's plot is iffy and sketchy. I mean, they don't know how to reconstruct the people from this end into the other quantum universes, but they somehow get reconstructed because the reconstructed people are from a different universe where they DO know how to reconstruct.

Come on! And if that was the case, then obviously the reconstructed people would have memories from that OTHER universe, where they DID know how to reconstruct them in, so they would have memories of how it was explained to them. Except they didn't.

And so on. The book is great fiction, no -- almost amazing sci-fi, but don't expect this to come true at all.
