that would be a compressor with an auto gain compensation, which most of them have these days. if it didnt have auto gain compensation then your wave would be compressed and it would be quieter as a result.

i'll check that out... you mean it goes above 0db??? it shouldnt do. it should be bang on. maybe i'll make it -0.00001 db to be sure

No I don't believe it's possible for a wave to go above 0db.. distortion is caused by the wave trying to "out do it self" and it creates a short flat spot at 0db..

i'll have to try and round it off somehow then, maybe a bit of attack/release on the limiter will do the job. thanks for your help
