There is a dip in quality...but not generally noticable on club systems

I know of loads of djs that play 192k mp3s they just recieved hours earlier off the net..

wavs are only really essential for pressing onto vinyl or cd mastering so u get absolute full quality on the finished article.

Is this a bug in winamp maybe or does the mp3 compression really add high end to a track?

winamp has a poor visual frequency display, don't rely on that

mp3s actually cut high frequencies that the winamp display wont reach, waves are different to mpeg audio, and the quality is better with waves despite weird looking displays

That's something worth taking into consideration. Since it's not meant to be on a cd or vinyl, why bother upping a 90MB file? It'll take about two hours - even on my 54 Mbps adsl line. I'd up a 320kbps mp3 file or something instead of 192kbps, if that'd be ok. Between those, I personally don't hear much difference in quality though.

It's pretty much case dependent too... not all 192 mp3s are alike.

Thats the big thing for me, 192 are usually ok quality wise but in some cases they are not. I guess what I am really asking for is the best quality copies of these tracks that your willing to provide. I don;t expect anyone to pay anything in shipping, so I am trying to get an ftp setup for people to upload the stuff to.
