whatever happene dto Super Mario 2. btw.? I heared it got only released in Japan?

God..the more I think of it the more I recognize its magnificence..what a fucking genious concept for a game

It was released properly, first on its own, then on Super Mario Allstars for SNES. What I liked so much about the Mario games on NES was that they were all so different from each other(Mario 2 had 4 characters to choose from for instance), yet with enough similarities to get that familiar Mario-feeling. Just legendary game material.

At first it wasn't planned to be a Mario game, but for some reason, they changed their mind. If I remember correctly, the name for the game was supposed to be "Doki Doki Panic"

Then there's also the Japanese version of SMB2, which is on Super Mario All-Stars as Super Mario Bros: The Lost Levels.

It's like that in every conventional Mario game afaik - on the tenth consecutive jump kill, u get a 1-up, and more for each consecutive jump kill after that.
