oh man, my moral is so low now

when I left at 8am, everything was so perfect, one of the best party this year, vibe, sound, crowd, miss b having the time of her life (skipper too ), i didn't want to leave, but was so tired.

I woke up and first thing I learn is the death of a partier, i was (still) shocked. This is not good.

I don't want to make any asumption now because frankly i know so little about it. Moreover, what is the most damageable are those asumptions/rumours carried around in clubland.

there's something I still do not understand about this mishap, these security employees are the nicest i ever met, i cannot imagine how this can happen.

I am still going tonight for acquaviva/carter/lawler but it wont be the same...

RIP

I think the "scene took a hit" thing is a little pre-mature.

There have been deaths in TO, and the "scene" keeps on chugging.
(I remeber a man found in the dumpster @ Guvernment in 2000, apparent OD)

A death is always a sad thing, no matter the circumstance, but the scene's health should be the farthest thing from our minds when someone out doing what we all love to do, partying, passes away.

Any speculation about the club and staff's future is best left to see what the investigation turns up, since it isn't common knowledge of what led up to the pile on, or what happened during it.

MONTREAL - Montreal police officers are investigating a suspicious death at an after-hours nightclub on St-Denis Street after a man in his 30s was discovered in cardio-respiratory arrest at 9:30 a.m. today.
According to the police, security staff at club Aria said they had subdued the man after having difficulties with him. After the incident, the man was rushed to hospital where he died 45 minutes later.
An autopsy will be held to determine the cause of the man's death.

That's a pretty lame news report about this.

But I also think that the scene took a hit with this. Aria is the prominent afterhours club in Montreal that brings in the best talent, trance wise and also other genre wise.

Twilo was shut down after one death too.

Wasn't some one already killed at Aria some time ago ? Actually it was a week before PVD in April...

Remember, we're supposed to be having fun people, not endangering our lives.

I suspect if security had anything to do with it, they will be hung out to dry. That is unless they stick together, and show some teamwork, boys.

Ugh.

What REALLY happened will probably be forever kept obscured from view behind a haze of bubbles, smoke, lasers, night-time, opposing witnesses unwilling to come forward for fear of a. reprisal or b. exposure to workmates and family. (See my appearance on Global after Stababalloo/Docks 2001.)

Aside from not doing drugs (and by saying that I realize I'm pissing into the wind) the best way to protect yourself at a party is to be there surrounded by friends you know and trust outside of the 'scene' as well as in.

Dunc

*hugs for Malek*

I knew you'd be upset when you found out. It went from being the perfect night to being completely confusing and panicked.

Aria security has always been friendly to me - they seem entirely opposite of, say, the Guvernment staff. People are so quick to assume that security was probably at fault because there are more of them, but I don't think that's what happened here.

There was a death outside of Aria. It was a shooting on an inocent by stander after a person was not let into the club. This is a totally different situation. The person died inside the club.

since everything but that story is speculation, and even its not official police report, heres my view on it.

*All below is speculation*
buddy was probably high as a kite, some sort of amphetamine I would guess. He was either not looking so good, or caught buying/selling, and the bouncers decided he had to leave. They try to remove him, but he puts up a fight, and bouncer call for help to remove him.
more resistance, and well..fight of flight response, he stays, gets piled on, and then wham..his heart cant take it, they get off him, only to realize something is really wrong, and send him to the hospital, where he died of cardiac arrest
*/end of my speculation*

I cant see bouncers 'beating down' somebody, maybe a lil roughed up until they get ahold of him, and get an arm lock, bearhug or whatever. Its all tragic, but I dont think you can assign blame to anybody, its not the clubs fault, nor is it the bouncers fault, I mean, at most I almost think its the dead guys fault. Ive never seen a bouncer pile onto an innocent guy.
either way, I feel sorry for everybody involved, Aria, its employees, the dead guy and his family.

Hopefully some light will come to the subject soon

Twilo was shut down for more reasons than just "one death." In fact all the other reasons besides the death probably were the root cause to it closing.

well as far as i know that rudy was trying to close it down for a while and the death just caused a giant spiral of events to occur.

and twilo was shut down on a technicality. not renewing a fire inspecition permit. very lame. more beurocratic controls.
