Sick.

I've lost count of how many times I've seen Lawler but the tail end of what I caught last night was on par with his kickass set at system in late 2001...

I'm pissed I didn't hear Blue Monday...but.. what can u do

Just when I thought Steve Lawler couldn’t possibly outdo himself, he shows up and drops a FIERCE SET like that which he did last night. That was the best set I have heard in that room in a VERY LONG TIME (easily the best set I have heard in that room this year, sorry Mr. Zabeila). Steve took to the decks just after 12:30 and he had the PHAZON pumping his own unique trademark brand of “dark and twisted house music” for a good 3 1/2 hours or so. I don’t think the regular GUV faithful knew what hit them last night. Lawler took us on a ride filled with bomb after bomb of the maddest, most upfront house music this planet has to offer.

In many ways it was a prototypical Lawler set, lots of big chunky basslines, dark drums, big room crazy as funk house music, fat warped electro tinged beats, lots of twisted vocals, some bangin tech and a few classics given the remix treatment. Truly great stuff from the “King of Space”. His set had everything that one would come to expect to hear in a classic set from Steve Lawler, in other words ALL OF THE GOOD SHIT!!! As far as where my one personal tastes in music currently lie, it just didn’t get any better than it did last night.

After Lawler was done his set, I ventured upstairs to the Drink where Manzone and Strong had the Drink pumping with their own blend of dirty assed house music. Excellent stuff as always from my favourite local tag team, keeping all of the house lovers left in the building thoroughly satisfied until the wee hours of the morning.

Overall I would have to give last night an 11/10.

I still can’t wipe this silly grin off my face nor do I think I will be able to for quite some time. I *heart* Steve Lawler, who is in my opinion the planet’s UNDISPUTED KING OF FUNKY ASS SHAKIN PIMPED UP TO FUCK HOUSE MUSIC

ps. Someone needs to bring him back for an EXTENDED SET in this city. ASAP.

pps. anyone know the name of Steve’s last track of the night (his encore tune)! SOOOOOOO DAMNED GOOD!

LONG LIVE HOUSE MUSIC!!!

OMG. STEVE LAWLER WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN ALL MY LIFE?!?!?!?

for the past three years, it's been like the running joke that i will never get to see lawler. every time he's been here, i've been in another city and vice versa - ridiculous. so i was very excited to finally see him. i was expecting it to be good, but fuck me, that was amazing!!!! he was so unfuckingbelievable. i like lost it when he played "blue monday". one of the best sets of the year for sure.

also, the dancers and visuals were actually attempting to do something interesting for once, which was a pleasant surprise.

YAY! steve lawler i love you it was totally worth the three year wait.
