Are you sure those threads were deleted by the authors and not by the mods?

I knew that the Accuface would get deleted because it was a double post when no one was interested. The BT thread turned into a flame right?

Now that I think about it, maybe with a timed out edit/delete function users will think twice about what they will say in posts. Maybe this can be a measure to curb flaming and ridiculous posts.

Ultimately, this would be something Swamper would have to agree with. Everyone post your opinions in this thread. If there is a strong enough response I will start up a stickied poll so that everyone can vote.

well I think timed edits are good. And if you REALLY need update/delete an older post (like a list or something), couldn't it all be done by the mod? (Yep, more work for you guys but at least it's controlled)

I edit fairly often just because I remember things at the last minute and would rather not post 4 times in a row to get it all down. And the server does act up from time to time and double posts occur accidentally, so the delete function is useful.

Having said that, I'm all for the idea of a 5-10 minute time limit. Most of my edits occur within 5-10 seconds, not minutes, and I don't think I've ever had to delete a non-double-post.

I agree, edit/delete should have a time limit. Post your message, re-read it afterwards, you have 5/10 minutes to notice any typos or change your mind. But after days of an arguement, then going back and removing everything you've said to cover your tracks, that's cheap.

I am all for the timed edit thing. People need to THINK before they TYPE! And I have yet to delete a post too... I agree, if you're going to say something, have the stones to stand by it.

And LKD... When have you EVER corrected your typos? Not that I've seen! Heh...

i agree with RJ. just bear in the mind that once we've imposed a time limit then we can no longer edit posts that are informational based and have nothing to do with flame wars like the stickied threads above.

maybe i'm only saying this since i avoid flame wars whenever possible. but seriously, going back and editting one's comments is pretty lame and from my observation, that action has only been committed by a few people on this board which don't seem to have a lot of respect from most of you guys anyways so what does it matter? besides, there's till the "quote" tool that can help you save posts in a rebuttal ..

just my thoughts.

Yeah I'm busted. It didn't bother me until I realized all of those posts were gone. And that BT thread got to like 4 pages. So everyone's opinion just *poof* disapeared.

Margs: The doodz who started the BT thread (Pyrovitex I think) actually threatened to delete the thread the second anyone started to argue contra his opinion on BT. (so I knew it was him that deleted it)

How do you feel about that R.J?

here's the original post again

Meh, at first I enjoyed the fact that I could edit my post years after first posting them, but now the apparent abuse of the system is starting to get on my nerves.

Instead of fixing minor mistakes people (lately) have been using the delete button to take back any arguments that could infringe on their reputation.

The deletion of two threads in particular (1) The BT talent (or lack thereof) Thread and the (2) Accuface Thread both really pissed me off. In both instances the original thread starter deleted the entire god damn thread because subjective opinions arose which were differing from their own. In the meantime, some interesting deductions were made and some people (who said some pretty ignorant shit) got away with it. I'm bitter because in both threads I thought I made good arguments. haah

Are we all happy with the ability to edit? What are the downsides?

Can we please use some discretion? Or add the whole "EDIT: blah blah" thing. Personally I think the edit option should stay, the delete option should go.

Comments?
