What about charity casinos? How do you feel about that?

Well Emery's joke just went over your head.

He wants to bet on whether this thread will reach 21 pages or not.

You know, over/under.

Commonly called the fool's tax.

They have been shown to reap funds from the lowest quintile of income earners, instead of the top quintile.

And holy shit, talk about greediness. Like seriously, can they hold on to their money any tighter.

If I was rich I would donate huge chucks of my money to the poor. I mean you don't need 2.4 billion dollars to live.

i do completly agree with the fact that the rich should help the poor. but some factor to think about.

- rich people do already give a lot, just think about all the charity balls and fund raising events. I work for a BIG accounting firm, and we just had a United Way charity drive, and raised a lot of money. I do also realise that those balls and such do waste money, but atleast they are conributing some how.

- And as for CEO's most of the money ISNT actually there's. Thats why all the stats say "net worth", thats if they liquidate all their assets...which never actually happens. If they would like to continue working (which most of them do) they must keep their shares to stay in power of a company. I know we all think, just sell and retire, but some people do get a sense of satisfaction from ruling a huge company. Its just a job, and they should not be looked down upon for getting to the top.

- Why not take a look at atheletes if you want to count greedy money makers. Michael Schumacher...the most well payed athelete in the world, on an anual baisis. Makes $40mil US a year just from his salary from Ferrari, plus his endorsments, he makes around $80-$100mil US per year. Thats nuts.

- there are examples of capitalism everywhere, but this is the only real solution to the human brain. Because communism wont work as long as people think they way we do. "Why work if the government is gonna give me money anyways?" or "Why bother trying, the government makes all the decisions".

People need to be motivated by choice and the fear of not surviving.

alot of the rich people strive to reach where they are..

so what if they are worth more than others, anyone who tries hard can reach that level..

and anyone who has worked hard for their money would hold on tight to it cos of the fact that THEY EARNED IT...

when u workd in that McJob a few years ago as a teen, did u give all ur money to united way cos u were richer than the poor kids that united way feeds??

I'm sorry, I'm kind of lost on the notion that rich people are greedy if they don't give to the poor.

Equal distribution of wealth is a property of communism. Charity is great, but, if you make it a requirement, doesn't it stop being charity?

By labelling every rich dude who doesn't give massive amounts to "people in need" as "greedy", you're in effect robbing the word of any inherent moral goodness. Those people have every right to squeeze every penny, they earned it through smarts and dedication!

Yes, of course if I had $2.4 billion, I would probably be giving lots of it away. I could put away $1 billion and live off the interest alone, throw away the $1.4 billion to whoever wants it.

But this ideal of equal wealth distribution is just another one of the ways in which communism has invaded mainstream society (alongside multiculturalism and political correctness, for instance). A free market requires that people not be equal!

That's small potatoes compared to the top CEOs of the world.

Well, I don't make much money and I still give to charity (something I care about) every month. Even if it is 10 bucks. If I was making twice as much as I am I would give twice as much. If I was making 100 X more I would give 100 X more to charity (but I would probably spread it out to several causes). And with that sort of finicial pull you can actually make sure the money makes it to the actual cause.

Seriously tho, if those CEOs don't actually have the money they are worth, they still make some profit into their own bank account. Maybe they don't make 2.4 billion dollars, they still make a lot of money.
