Hey, I don't find that depressing at all.
I quit my seasonal X-mas job JUST to jet over to Amsterdam for the weekend and attend Innercity & Qontact 2001. I'd do it all over again, if only the two parties were closer together. I lucked out that year, having them 2 days apart. Since then, they've been 10 days apart.

And I think I can squeeze everything for under 2,000. But there are cheaper ways to do it if you want to crash at some hostel or something. I'm going there for pretty much a week so the costs are higher...

2,000 won't be too bad! i know that to go to cancun during xmas is to spend just under that, but hey, you're off to amsterdamn! much more interesting destination in my opinion

Well that actually depends how many people you go with...if you want to go to a decent resort in Cancun on x-mas with only 1 other person or by yourself you'll end up paying minimum 2,500...which is rediculous unless you book waaay in advance...
