well.. you see, here in israel the trance scene is big, and i mean really big, but what i hate about here is that most of the big deejays dont come here, like PVD, i've never read any interview of his saying he will be in israel soon or something like that, and this really pisses me off!, i dont know why they dont wanna come, maybe its because all the shit that has been going on with the arabs, or they just dont feel this place..
Dj Tiesto has been here like 4-5 times, i heard he was gr8, i cant go yet cause im 2 young, all the g00d parties here start at like age 18, so i need to wait like another 4 years to get in... I wish we had blank & jones here on a beach party, i would not care im 14, i would go and fuck the guards if they wont let me in ill shot them!..
well... i hope one day israel will get to see more big dj'z like germany and the UK do...

Anyway, the thing is that people are just different in Europe, they have a different mentality. The American culture is based on rock, that's all there is to it. The mentalities and cultures are completely different. And it's not just about music, by the way. |
Now, now. The US based on rock? That's too much of a generalization. Yes, we had a horrible history of 80s hair bands, but I think every country had it.
I agree with everyone about the party scene giving trance and other forms of electronic music a bad name. I for one think that we ARE heading towards the right direction. We as a country are still young compared to Europe as a whole! We just need time. If you want your city to compete with Europe, give your local promoters ideas. I know that I feed the local club owners in Philly tapes and CDs about who's-who's in Europe, and you know what? I hear the styles coming into the clubs I visit. Just start to be involve in your scene, but in a positive way. I used to go to parties ans say, "This sucks! No one knows what's going on!"
Then I realized that I'm apart of it. Sorry this is getting long. Just get involved, then you know that something is happening.

Ckerr, you are a genius and have summed up my thoughts exactly.
but as someone else said, the age by clubs is really limiting to true fans like myself - its the reason i couldnt go see seb fontaine, judge jules, and tiesto (ALL THIS YEAR!)
so i guess they're coming to vancouver. im just not legal (19) im 17..
and no they're not still being held in warehouses, they're in big coliseums and halls, no longer raves just big parties.
honestly i dont give a rats ass if they're candy kids dancing or "normal people", obviously id prefer just club-goers
but as long as MORE EXPOSURE was evident, and the trance scene for vancouver grew... id be happy. more people into trance, please.

well if trance is behind in the US, all the people who bang on about it been to commercial over here, and say where r all the good older tunes. Well you will get ya wish, coz american up and cumming djs will be makin the kinda trance we had 3 or more years ago.
But prbably not, coz big djs will flood the scene, for example, pete tong is always over there doin essensial selection from new york, so it has begun, and if it gathers as huge crowds as has been said, then djs will want to go to the US

I'm going to get blasted for this, but I don't really care cause it's how I feel. Trance is getting a bad rap in North America because of the ravers and the culture. In Europe the music is glamourous, alot of distiguished and well to do people go to expensive clubs and spending there money and having a great time.
|
You've made a good point. But don't be fooled into thinking that only America has this sort of attitude to dance music. Don't forget, dance music broke into the UK in exactly the same way as in the US. It's happening for you as it happened to us. Give it time, and it's gradually going to start coming away from the raves and into the clubs once people realise that it's not going to go away. And as somebody else mentioned, there's a lot of money to be made. When I look at the US scene I get excited because it's so new and fresh, it's what I imagine the early UK scene was like (I wasn't into it all then) and there's so much talent over there I really think the US is going to play a massive part in the future of dance music.
As for people who aren't into the scene, they're exactly the same here mate. They think it's all pills and Castles in the Sky. Fans of dance music are still a huge minority. Don't forget we only recently got a love parade ourselves, and they still managed to fuck it all up this year.
Be patient mate, and feel glad that you're right at the beginning of something big in your country.
Oh and don't diss. the candy kids. They always bring a smile to my face Just remember that for every person that's sitting in the corner fucked beyond all belief, there's somebody doing exactly the same thing on alcohol at more "conservative" bars. There're always going to be people who go too far.
People are just scared of what they don't know. It'll become more accepted and widespread, just wait

The reason Trance does so well in Europe is because people have more say into what is played on radios and TV... Clubs in the UK have often been a source of the new music played on radio's... In europe you see all kinds of music given airplay, because its more like the people decide what they want to hear... In north America the Record Companies and Radio stations basicly tell you what to hear.. You don't get exposed to anything really new, just the same shit re-hashed over and over again. |
Sorry, just had to add something else to this too.
Reading the boards I get the impression that a lot of people think it's a constant party on TV and the radio. That's not the case at all. MTV for instance, it's stll 80% pop, and the dance music that is played is very commercial. Dance music is left more for weekend hourly programming (inveriably late at night when we're all out clubbing anyway!).
As for the radio, most of it (other than London) is made up of very small local radio stations which are very poppy. Radio one is all we really have nationally, and even they have been critizised a lot for the amount of Dance music they play (which really isn't a lot, when you consider the stations target audience is around 18-30, it shows how dance fans are still a minority).
Anyways, I'll shut up now. Peace
