the copy thing is stupid if it's so highly encrypted that some players will not recognise the cd in the first place. In the end it's the artist who sufffers.
Take natalie imbruglia - white lilies island. a fantastic album. Many of the cd's were returned by the customers to the shops because they were having difficulties actually getting the thing to play!
I have the first natalie imbruglia album on the original cd
I have the second album as an illegal copy..............

actually it's not my discman, my discman has played every mp3cd and cd I've put in it since I bought it in Jan 2003. This is the first disc that has not worked. I tried both cd's in my brother's discman and it did not work. So I sent a mean email to EMI telling them how freaking fed up I was because I use the discman often and if I can't listen to stuff on discman, why should I bother buying EMI. I pointed out I buy cd's because I want to but they are making me think twice.

it was not a mean worded email....it was worded in such a way, I wanted to know why it was not working in my cd player. I even put the make down in my email. I want it to work in that discman of mine because i take it everywhere pratically. I liked the cds tho but they are taking the copy control thing to the max. I mean you push shift to get around it but I mean if it does not work in discmans, are normal cd buyers actually going to buy those cd's. No, they will steer clear of them. Why piss off your customers? and then they have this crap at the back of the cd on the back near the 2nd cd. All about stealing and shit, I mean I bought it, so obviously I'm not stealing it. I mean if you want to control your own copyrighted material then great, by all means go ahead but why should my cd's not work in discman?. I want to listen to music but if the stuff I buy won't work, why buy?

Good point, and because of you as customer i think EMI should to their best to at least keep you satisfied. As long as they keep trying to protect cds in a agressive way, i think they should not be surprised if cdsells are lower and lower... The whole industry is totally doing the opposit of what they should, entertain people.
And to add: cdsells are behind because of several reasons: people don't have the money to buy 10 cds a month anymore thanx to the freefall of the economy, people just don't want to pay 20 euros for a timberlakealbum and last one....and so on ...

Tho the funny thing was, the chemical brothers cd is worth 20 bucks (2cd's). Normally they would sell it for 36 bucks, so that is a bonus but not being able to play those cd's on my discman pisses me off. I guess I'll just end up buying NON EMI cd's to play on my discman. Their loss, not mine.

havent seen any anti copy cd's yet, but i dont think its a good thing for me. You see, usually i rip the CD to my computer and dump it onto my iPod with my other CD's, so if this becomes into full effect on all future releases, id rather just download it and upload to my iPod to save the trouble worrying about anti copy crap.

Copy protected cd's are labeled aren't they ?
And i dont think they are even selling it as a "red-book" cd-audio standard. So what we have here, are customers not knowing enough about what they are buying ?
And if you have bought 1 item, and it doesnt work, does that give you the right to steal the next item ?
