dont mean to be a smart arse here, but cd singles and maxi's cost less than the average 12" and are generalyl better value for money in the maxi's case when you get 8 full mixes etc.

well i burn the latest stuff that isnt avalible to buy or what i dont have on promo, otherwise no im a big collector and will do anything i can to track the cd down, secodn hand or otherwise.

I don't know who told you that MP3s are going to have the same quality as CDs, but that is completely incorrect. You might not be able to hear the difference but if you ever play live at a club or on a decent system you'll hear the difference.

Quite a few sound engineers (both on and off TA) have confirmed this along with detailed explanations, and several DJs have confirmed the difference in quality as well.

You can afford the CDs

yo pvd fanatic... tranceaddict is a just a fucking timebomb for posts like this now. people don't give a shit whether or not you are doing something bad... they will just blow up in your face without thinking.

it is perfectly understandable for any DJ who doesn't receive all the latest goods as promotional material to want access to new tunes that are only d/lable. this is the reason why many people get cd decks in addition to regular 1200s.

basically, for mixing purposes, go for the biggest mp3 files and they will have the best bitrate, ie. less quality loss in the wav to mp3 compression.

I wouldn't necessarily say it's the reason. It's one of many. Being able to burn your own tracks without paying thousands to have good quality vinyls of it pressed is much higher on the list, of course. And being sent CDR promos from producers...and getting a track on CD that isn't available on vinyl (better quality than mp3). Etc etc etc...

of course! for a professional, yes...
i was mainly thinking of amature or unknown DJs.

You never know, though; sometimes amateur DJs get unexpected surprises One producer in particular sent me a few tracks...needless to say I was ecstatic to have a CDJ at the time.
