just got back from seeing it... Overall, i thought it was a very well done movie... i liked the way how they depicted the situation between traditional japanese beliefs and modernization of japan...

however, my main gripes in the movie were:
1. the emperor... what a wimp
2. wallace should have died at the battle.. him surviving just doesn't make sense
3. wallace and that japanese girl never got it on! so close!! lol

but my favourite character from that movie is katsumoto... man.. he is one badass lol

The movie ends with the implication of them "getting it on", which is just another hokey ending if you ask me. And yes...the film would have been much better had Cruise just been wasted at the end along with all the other Samurai. It didn't make sense that he was the only survivor. Cut that cheesey last 10 minutes of fake tears and you would have had a near perfect movie in my opinion.

i just saw this today and i must say i really liked it... the story line was quite interesting and it unfolded very well without a hint of cheesyness... the little subtle referals to the american indians was a great touch in my opinion, and drew quite constructive parallels... the characters were very original too and the casting was just brilliant, and as someone mentioned, the dude that played katsumoto definitely deserves some recognition!

definitely recommend this film to anyone...

I thought this movie was one of the better movies that I've seen lately. Parts of it were kind of cheesy and I think that was partly due to Tom Cruise taking on the lead role. The attention to detail was phenominal as was the whole story line. I liked the fact that the true samurais were standing up for what they believe in. The theme as mentioned above shown in this movie could be applied to many situations and events in todays society. I also agree with others that Cruise should have died in the end with the rest of them. It was a very compelling movie and I would recommend it to everyone.

4.5/ 5 stars

Just a long shot, but has anyone here read Sun Tzu's "Art of War", written some 2,500 years ago?

Very good movie, my only problem with the film as well is Cruise surviving in the end, but besides that it was a very moving film...

I have read The Art of War, not just a guide for war but actually more of philosophy of politics, business, and relationships definatley a good read...

Also check out A Book of Five Rings-Miyamoto Musashi, It gives a better explanation of the Samurai and where and why they originated and also explains the politics of feudal Japan at the time 16th-17th century, I had read this a few years back and could see the similarities in the movie. Yes the emporer was a wimp but that is because at that time the title was just passed down the bloodline much like the current british monarch, so there was always someone in the background controlling the puppet wether it was for his own interests or whatever.....

Im starting to ramble on lol so I give this movie a 4.9 out of 5 all because of cruise surviving the end.
