agreed, its nice for me cause im always just abit behind so nothing really gets overplayed for me...i have to try really hard to keep up with the newest tunes...but more unknowns would be cool.

seriously, if you a big trance lover then find the 1998-1999 stuff. It was the supposed "Golden Age" of trance and some of those essential mixes from back then, I still have on repeat.

Who fucking cares if there isn't enough trance? You can't listen to good house, techno and other genres besides trance on the Essential Mix? Check out Adam Freeland's Essential Mix from this year. It's an amazing breaks set that I highly recommend.

Yes, it certainly is personal opinion but.....

You find DJ Marky's EM slow? Adam Freeland stale?

24/08/03 SASHER AND TONGY - CREAMFIELDS

probably one of pete tong's best sets i've heard. sasha first put together lot of his choons he's banging out now at this one, e.g., hoochie koochie man, emotional soundscape, psiko garden, in a state...

but, yes, i would agree that, overall, the EM has pretty much declined since back in the day. indeed, they do have pretty good sets once in awhile, but at least the new DJs that they're bringing in are getting some exposure. i dunno...in a way, i wish that they could have regulars like carl cox, tiesto, oakenfold, van dyk, on again. however, radio 1 is allowing new DJs to get a start, which i like.

cheers,
-aidan

I go to the Essential Mix when I want a fresh new sound. If you want a guaranteed trance show, then hit up ASOT. I use Radio1 to find new stuff. I randomly downloaded Freeland's EM after hearing Sasha drop his Nirvana remix. Whooooooaaaa.... now I'm into breaks! It's an amazing essential mix. I also downloaded Donald Glaude's EM from 2002 before going to see him warm up for PvD in Seattle and I am now searching for more house. I even have a LTJ Bukem set. Use the Essential Mix to diversify your taste. When I wanna hear the best that a genre has to offer, I know that I can get it from the Essential Mix.

this year has been AWESOME for the essential mix.
Moshic, Gabriel & Dresden, High Contrast, Plump Dj's, Adam Freeland, Steve Lawler, Lee Coombs, heaps more..
so what if there isnt enough 'trance' on there, theres been a fair bit of breaks but breaks are doing so-fucking-well at the moment its no wonder..

I thought the Essential Mix has been really good this year. Lots and lots of quality sets - Planet Funk, Lee Coombs, Pete Gooding, Adam Freeland, Moshic, Phil Kieran , and of course, the man like, Sasha.

I also enjoyed some of the sets by less-known DJs, Wally Lopez and Murk.

To those who complain there's not enough trance DJs on the Essential Mix, one thing I can say is that not many trance DJs can pull off mixing a true Essential Mix quality set.
