I asked ralphie b if trance had lost it's focus and he said yup. Then again, I view this as another cycle in music. It gets good then goes to hell then comes back. It should be quality over quantity. Everytime I get tired of the new trance, I just go dig out the 1998-1999 sets from the glory years, never gets tired or I go listen to breaks or something else. Over the years, I've learned that too much of something is not a good thing, so I listen to a variety of music genres.

yep. the answer is diversification. you'll be bored of any genre if you listen only to it 24/7. listen a bit of some other stuff as well.

as for trance being dead and non-creative, everyone has been saying it every since i remember it. it's not like something that just happened now. you get a thread like this once a month or something cause once a month or something someone realises it and gets bored.

but for me, trance isn't dead. uplifting/epic trance is. progressive and darker trance (the Bonzai and Joof Recordings stuff for example) keeps me entertained a lot, even if it isn't particularly new or innovative, it just wasn't exploited to death like uplifting. and once in a while you get some tracks that show the music is moving forward. just those tracks don't get enough attention - people are more open to those cookie-cutter tracks cause that's what they're used to.

i think that for all people that need new music often, diversification is a must. there is not enough good trance out in what is considered current at any given time... i listen to progressive house/trance and tech variations etc. to keep my need for music entertained, but the problem is i don't like a majority of tracks from any genre...therefore very hard for me to dig out outside of trance which is what i really keep up to date with.

not another trance is dead thread

I think quality stuff's still being made. There is a lot of forgettable, mediocre stuff around now but in my opinion, the good stuff's still out there.

Maybe that's just my taste speaking though, everyone has different tastes, even amongst people who listen to the same genre (trance), so while I think 2002 and 2003's been the best era ever for trance, there's bound to be loads who'll disagree.

ive said this many times before. someone needs to go back to step one and start making some real and innovative music. Bring back the real talented artist that make the good music. I feel some hope in progressive but nobody is locking on that one sound that give people interest in this music and focusing it into making good music all the time.

I have to severely disagree.. there have been some WICKED tracks coming out, but as always.. you may have to be doing the digging to find them. Personally, I think that if you are looking to Matt Darey, or Ferry to hear the best of what's around then of course you may be a bit disappointed.

I have been in this for a long time.. been djing playing primarily trance for 8 years now. And at this very moment I feel great about where things are at right now.. sure, there is a LOT of pure crap coming out, which makes it seem like things are going to shit, but underneath that, there is, as there has always been, some amazing and powerful music being pumped out. Someone SERIOUSLY needs to start filtering out some of the shit that rightfully should never hit our ears or record shelves though.. There is a lot of absolute shite coming out, making it seem like things are in trouble. Don't lose hope though.. sure you can go onto Chemical Records today, and listen to the new trance remix of Bette Middler.. [who's fucking idea was that????] but you can also still find the tracks that give you goosebumps or have you caning them on repeat here and there.

as was said above, DIG DEEPER!
-T
