buying Techs on ebay...

Is no more risky than any other ebay purchase. Buy from an established trader with lots of positive feedback, and make sure there's a return policy in case the merchandise is not as described. Simple.

You could also check the classifieds right here at tranceaddict - and help a fellow member out.

Buy Technics. You may not appreciate fully until you a) unpack them for the first time and b) realize how utterly solid they are after you've been spinning for a bit, but you definately will not regret buying them (unless you decide that DJing is not for you).

If you're looking to save some money, you can sometimes find really good deals on consigned/used Technics at your local music store.

On the contrary, there are those who say my first set should be something a bit less expensive just to give me something to learn on and play around with. What have been all of your experiences?? I have no idea of the difference between inexpensive tables and expensive tables. Are the cheap tables known to scratch vinyls??? Do they have worse output?? (I have no idea) What should I do as a dj in training? Thanks guys!!!

the difference in quality between technics and other brands (like gemini's, and stantons from what i hear, although i am not sure about Vestax) can be drastic. learning how to beatmatch can be difficult and frustrating, and doing it on shitty decks that don't correct their speed can make it really hard. i learned on gemini's but it sucked and i haven't touched a gemini in 10 yrs i hate them but if you can learn to play on crappy decks you can play on anything... just might not be worth the time and you will watch 1200's at some point anyway.

Technics all the way mate - had mine for like YEARS and they've never had a single problem. You get much better second hand value if you ever decide it's not for you. There's very good reasons why almost all clubs use them - they're built like a rock and run for years.

Definitely worth the money - as for which version it's not so important (odd well known bugs around the zero mark on Mk2 but no big deal). Personally I'd go for the cheaper mixer to begin with as you can easily upgrade that later (just make sure you get one with proper EQ on) and save the money to get the Technics.

Ebay is definitly where it's at. When I bought my tables I was a freshman in college and thus low on cash, but through careful watching of the auctions I was able to obtain 2 from different dealers for $500 total (including shipping!). They were kind of scratched up but they ran like the day they were built.

Three years later, I still have them, they still work perfectly, and I wouldn't trade them for the world, even for a brand new pair. I don't think I would be able to say the same thing had a bought a set of Stantons brand new.

I'm not here trying to knock the other brands (I am a big fan of the Gemini PT series actually), but I have seen people flat out abuse a set of Technics, and they never talk back. At a house party, one dude accidently dropped one of his and it rolled down a set of 5 wooden stairs. We were all mortified and rushed in to plug it in. The tonearm was busted, but everything else worked perfectly. If I ever had any doubts about their quality, that ended them.
