i posted some long ass thread last night replying to this but apparently it's lost... basically i said that he was the one to get me (and apparently many of us) into trance... he's evolving, just like any good artist does... he's a business man, he knows how to run his shit... he is a little "big-headed" but so is every other superstar in the public eye... footballers, basketball players, rock stars, etc. he is the first "superstar dj". respect for that.
if you were a professional (at anything) and you did the same thing every day for 20 years you would get bored of that too, and you would want to evolve. that is what he's doing. he brought us all to someplace good (trance) and i trust he will bring us someplace good in the future as well.

That's a very BIG understatement. He's far more than a little.
So, I can deal with a little big-headedness.....but this man's head is like a blimp.
Damn, sucks my post got lost last night...was long

ah whatever man... does it really matter? do you enjoy the music? if so, cool. do you deal with him on a daily basis? i highly doubt it, so what impact does it truly have on your life what he is like personally? maybe it's that attitude that gets him more respect in the business world? who knows?

I still like Oakenfold to some degree. He did change a lot, but he's still okay imo. Great Wall was pretty good, but nothing great. He did so much for the scene, so the respect is always there.

Oakenfold has gone awol but his contribution to the acid house scene and the uk scene in general should never be forgotten. You can try to minimize it all you want but the man is a legend even tho he has a big ego. I mean the man was at the forefront of the trance explosion in 1998 and 1999 and any of you wish to argue he sucked then? doubt it?

oakey has been laying down sum phat sets. I never really cared about his mainstream shit and how much coke is in his head. I may not listen to him as much now...but he will pick up again. IM sick of tiesto, pvd, and now armin is gettin on my nerves.

still the best dj out there IMO
brings rare melodic prog remixes to the table
something i dont hear while listening to avb/tiesto/ etc
remixes of garbage/george michael etc
his diversity and dreamy prog/trance sets every week never fail to impress me.
always on top of his game in terms of tune selection although his mixing has gone to hell

tranceport showed me the light and i have never looked back... for that i owe him big time. can't say i like his newer style but i have a feeling (more like hoping) that he will go through a rebirth and come back to his roots...
ps: yeah i dont like this bandwagon mentality crap-one day tiesto's the fav and the next day he's public enemy... bullspit

Glad to see all the support
It's great to see all the support. I am so sick of people saying that he is cheese or for noobs. I've been in love with him since my trance CD, which I copped by luck. Another World is incredible! Great Wall is fascinating. Every track makes you want to scream of excitement. Whether it be the romantic vocals or heavenly synths. There is definately an incredible presence whenever Paul Oakenfold takes the decks. I have never felt such warmth with any other DJ. I think Oakenfold has an incredible sense of what his crowd whats and if he is big headed, good! He deserves all the respect in the world. Made me a believer!
